PURPOSE OF POSITION
In addition to all major duties of Deputy Director of Respiratory Care, acts with latitude for independent action and judgement in managing day-t

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Supervises Respiratory Care Staff, delegates responsibilities and makes daily assignments.
2. Coordinates Basic Life Support Training Activities. In-service, monitor all instructors, schedules the BLS classes throughout the year and maintains all appropriate records for submission to REMSCO.
3. Supervises point of care laboratory analyses, downloads the I-Stat analyzers, maintains records, participates in performance improvement laboratory projects, participates in proficiency testing and range verification studies and is compliant with all regulatory requirements (CLIA, NYSDOH, CAP and JCAHO).
4. Participates in Facility Wide Ambulatory Care Staff, Nursing Facility Department Head, and Monthly Respiratory Care Staff Meetings, etc.)
5. Maintains all departmental records.
6. Prepares/ submits and monitors annual budgets for personnel, supplies and Respiratory equipment (SNF/DTC)
7. Reviews, revises and updates the Respiratory Care/Pulmonary Lab policy and procedure manual.
8I Serves as deputy for areas of functional responsibility
9. Prepares required statistical reports for the Department.
10. Coordinates in-service education activities DCT/SNF.
11. Maintains adequate supply of inventories DTC/ SNF.
12. Prepares staff performance appraisals.
13. Maintain timekeeping and payroll issues for the department.
14. Interviewing/ hiring process, departmental Orientation and evaluation.
15. Handles disciplinary issues in consultation with the department administrator.
16. Serves as AOD.
17. Participate in ongoing system of evaluation of ambulatory care and SNF services

Minimum Qualifications
1. Valid license and current registration to practice as Respiratory Therapist issued by the New York State
Education Department (NYSED); and
2. Holds or obtains a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart
Association (AHA) within sixty (60) calendar days of appointment to the title; and
3. Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Respiratory Therapy, Public Health or a
related discipline; and three (3) years of satisfactory Respiratory Care Department experience in a
hospital or health care setting, one (1) year of which must have been in a responsible administrative or
managerial capacity; or
4. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, in disciplines, as listed in "3" above; and five
(5) years of experience, as indicated in "3" above, one (1) year of which must have been in a responsible
administrative or managerial capacity.
5. A satisfactory equivalent of education, training, and experience. However, all candidates must have a
minimum of a Bachelor's degree in disciplines, as described in "3" above, and be licensed and currently
registered by the NYSED to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in New York State.

Department Preferences

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB: CERTIFICATION(S)/LICENSE(S):
Current New York State Respiratory Therapist Licensure and credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by The National Board for Respiratory Care.
BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) Certification

EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:
Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy from a Respiratory Therapist training program approved

KNOWLEDGEABLE IN:
Three years of prior hospital-based experience and/or successful completion of both parts of the Advanced Respiratory Therapy Practitioner exam leading to the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential. Must have a broad, in-depth and superior knowledge and understanding of all respiratory care equipment and practices as well as clinical applications. Must have in-depth understanding of the pathologic basis of disease with focus on pulmonary pathophysiology and respiratory care treatment as it pertains to asthma and related diseases.
Knowledge of fundamentals of hospital organization, administration and standards, regulations and requirements pertaining to Respiratory Care and Laboratory operations, fundamental principles of business and personnel administration, management functions, support service functions and ability to direct and supervise personnel.
Superior oral and written skills in order to make technical information understandable to adults, as well as children, adolescents, parents, and family members. Must effectively interact with all medical personnel as an integral member of the health care team committed to excellence in patient care. Must be prepared to speak to large groups of people to fulfill obligations in
asthma/COPD, trach care and management educational programs.
