Chief Purpose of this position: The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology, Oncology and Palliative Care is seeking an incumbent who will have a role in developing theSolid Tumor Research Program at the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center. This position willhave a role in advancing the clinical research mission and will be expected towork collaboratively with other members of the Massey Comprehensive cancercenter.

Position Responsibilities:

Teaching | Trains medical students, residents and fellows in the laband while in the clinic. Expected toactively participate in providing clinical research opportunities to fellows.

Research | This position will be responsible for bringing the most innovativeclinical trials in solid tumors to the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center andthe region utilizing intra and extramural partnerships. This position will be expected to establishextramural partnerships with the ultimate goal of offering the most innovativedrugs in solid tumors to patients at the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Centerbefore they are standard of care. This position will be expected todevelop, initiate, and manage investigator-initiated trials in collaborationwith the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center's laboratory investigators. Youwill be expected to participate in Massey's Clinical Trial Training Program,write 2 IITs by year 3 and year 4, and apply for a career development award byyear 4. Efforts to obtain funding forresearch in areas of focus consistent with the mission of the School ofMedicine, Department, and Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center must bedemonstrated. In addition, reasonablescholarly activities, such as publications, presentations at national meetingsand participation in appropriate academic organizations, are expected as wellas active participation as a scientific member of the Massey Comprehensive CancerCenter.

Service | Expected to be active in decreasing Health Disparities in the communityserved by Massey/VCU.

Clinical | Attends on the inpatient wards and consult service, and/orsees patients in the outpatient clinic with a focus on solid tumors.

Required Qualifications:
  • Board certified or eligible in medical oncology or hematology
  • Eligible for Virginia licensure
  • Evidence of accomplishment/potential (e.g. - publications, trial PI) during medical school, residency, fellowship, and/or early academic career
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
