Manager, Emergency Planning and Recovery
USask's Safety Resources is seeking a Manager, Emergency Planning and Recovery to lead and administer emergency response and management programming. In addition to emergency management and preparedness and standard Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) operations such as safety management system implementation, occupational hygiene, construction and trades safety, and contractor safety, we provide the opportunity for involvement with unique technical programs in laboratory safety, safety programming for veterinary and health sciences, research safety programming, and environmental and hazardous waste management.

Primary Purpose:The Manager, Emergency Planning and Response leads the planning for, and management of, emergency situations to implement effective emergency and business continuity planning and the safety of people, infrastructure, and environment. The Manager, Emergency Planning and Recovery will work closely with USask's Protective Services to plan, develop, and execute integrated emergency response programs and actions.
Nature of Work:The Manager, Emergency Planning and Recovery will lead the campus community in development and execution of emergency response plans, develop a business continuity program related to emergency disruptions, participate in institutional emergency management responses, implement emergency response plan training, drills, and tabletops, continually improve the emergency response and emergency management program, address issues and concerns, respond to technical queries, promote best practices in lockdown and emergencies, and works with stakeholders to meet applicable legislative requirements.
The Manager, Emergency Planning and Recovery periodically works in potentially hazardous environments, responds to and assists with emergency situations, and will align with our values and commitments to an all-hazards approach including:
Accountabilities:Develops, implements, and manages emergency response and management policy, plans, procedures, and postings while ensuring collaboration with numerous areas, including senior leadership, with consideration of operational diversity and that legislative requirements are met.
Develops and implements a business continuity management system that will allow USask to continue and/or resume operations in the event of business disruption
Leads the planning process of major events and public health emergencies and integrates and cooperate with the activities and persons of organizations involved in the University emergency planning and emergencies.
Provides technical expertise, communications, as well as accurate and timely advice to the university community in support of emergent situations
Trains and educates emergency response and emergency management personnel and the university community.
Collaborates with USask Protective Services, public safety officials, and government agencies to publicly communicate and institutionally respond appropriately during an emergency.
Ensures planning and solutions retain Indigenous and EDI priorities, commitments, actions and outcomes.
Supports actions against discriminatory or racist behavior in our university; contributing to the dismantling of institutional structures, policies and processes that contribute to inequalities faced by marginalized groups.

Education:
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant discipline (i.e. Business Management, Emergency Management, Public Administration).
- Professional training on emergency
- Supplementary education in Incident Command Systems (minimum ICS 300), emergency, safety, or risk management related courses, and/or participation in relevant national emergency preparedness programs or provincial disaster programs would be an asset.

- Must possess knowledge and understanding of issues, including cultural, socioeconomic, and other factors affecting Indigenous Peoples and an awareness that Indigenous engagement is a strategic priority at the university.
- Experience working with diverse communities and stakeholders in an organizational setting is an asset.
