Role Summary

As the Associate Director of People & Culture, you'll be a vital partner in fostering a vibrant, inclusive culture that supports Storm King's mission and values. Reporting to the COO, you'll lead key HR functions, including recruitment, employee relations, I:DEA initiatives, compliance, benefits, compensation, HR technology, performance management, and professional development. Primary Responsibilities

HR Management
  • Partner with the COO to design, implement, and evaluate HR programs and practices that align with Storm King's strategic goals and culture.
  • Address employee relations issues with empathy and professionalism, collaborating with external counsel as necessary.
  • Manage the HR budget, including forecasting and professional development allocations, to support the growth and well-being of our team.
  • Champion inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (I:DEA) initiatives across all HR functions, building a culture where everyone feels valued.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Recruitment & Onboarding: Lead recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes for both union and non-union employees, focusing on creating a positive and inclusive candidate experience.
  • Payroll & Benefits Administration: Oversee payroll and benefits processes in collaboration with the HR/Payroll Assistant, ensuring accuracy and responsiveness to employee needs.
  • Performance & Compensation Management: Develop and oversee Storm King's performance evaluation and compensation review process, ensuring transparency, equity, and growth opportunities.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, including wage and hour requirements, paid leave, and COBRA.
  • Benefits Renewal: Lead the annual benefits renewal process, optimizing communication and participation to enhance employee satisfaction.
  • Fiduciary Responsibility: Support the Director of Finance in administering the 403(b) Retirement Plan, handling plan-related processes and promoting retirement readiness.
  • Employee Relations & Investigations: Conduct thorough investigations into complaints and workplace concerns with fairness and confidentiality.
  • Regulatory Agency Responses: Represent the organization in interactions with agencies such as the U.S. Department of Labor, EEOC, and Workers' Compensation Board.
  • Employee Engagement & Retention: Create initiatives to promote engagement, enhance communication, and increase retention, supporting a thriving work environment.

Other Responsibilities and Duties
  • Participate in staff and board committees as needed, supporting open communication between HR and organizational leadership.
  • Act as liaison to the Board's Compensation Committee, preparing reports and analyses as needed.
  • Undertake additional HR projects to support Storm King's evolving organizational needs.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in progressive HR roles, with experience in management.
  • HR Expertise: Proven ability to design and implement strategic HR programs that align with organizational goals.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Strong understanding of federal, state, and local labor laws, particularly in New York.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships at all levels.
  • Judgment & Discretion: Skilled in handling confidential information with the utmost integrity.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to prioritize, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading human resources initiatives with empathy, inclusivity, and a commitment to professional development.
  • Technical Proficiency: Competent in Microsoft Office Suite, HRIS, and payroll systems.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • Labor Relations Experience: Experience working in a unionized environment or with collective bargaining.
  • Nonprofit Background: Familiarity with the nonprofit sector is a plus.
  • Certifications: SHRM or equivalent HR certification preferred.

Benefits and Salary

  • Salary Range: $78,000 - $88,000 annually
  • Work Environment: Hybrid (3 days onsite)
