JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Director of Clinical Operations directs the daily administrative, operational, and clinical functions of the College of Dentistry dental clinics. This position ensures the highest standards of patient care and compliance with regulatory requirements and supports the educational mission of the College by providing a seamless environment for clinical instruction.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads the planning, coordination, and execution of daily clinical operations, ensuring efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and adherence to best practices.
  • Directs and optimizes patient flow, faculty schedules, and student rotations to balance patient care and educational objectives.
  • Utilizes data and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) to track departmental performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develops and implements quality assurance programs to continually improve patient care and clinical performance.
  • Assists in monitoring the clinical budget to ensure alignment with departmental and College goals.
  • Participates in regular financial reviews and audits to maintain budgetary compliance and efficiency.
  • Provides direct supervision, development, and evaluation of Clinical Affairs support staff.
  • Implements technology solutions to streamline clinical workflows and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Works closely with academic leadership, faculty, and external partners to align clinical operations with the College's long-term strategic goals.
  • Provides work direction for the patient advocate to address clinical matters from students, faculty, and staff to ensure effective communication and resolution of issues under the direction of the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs.
  • Coordinates with external agencies and accrediting bodies such as CODA and the TN Board of Dentistry.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Qualifications:

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    EDUCATION: Master's Degree in Healthcare, Business, or a related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

    EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of progressive clinical healthcare leadership experience; OR Bachelors Degree and six (6) years of progressive clinical healthcare leadership experience.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    • Knowledge of clinical workflows and process improvement techniques.
    • Advanced computer skills.
    • Ability to work independently and prioritize.
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with diverse populations.


    WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work evenings.
