Mechanical Engineer- EV Battery Packaging

Position Summary

The Battery Packaging Engineer will work within the engineering team to design, analyze, and validate Packaging of lithium-ion battery cells into a high voltage battery system for Orange EV's product line. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that battery systems meet stringent performance, safety, and reliability standards.

Position Responsibilities
  • Design and Development:
    • Design and package lithium-ion battery cells into robust, high-voltage battery packs that meet heavy-duty EV requirements for performance, durability, and thermal management.
    • Develop 3D models and detailed engineering drawings for battery enclosures, modules, and related components, ensuring structural integrity and compatibility with vehicle chassis.
    • Select materials, components, and manufacturing processes for battery pack construction to meet design, cost, and production scalability targets.
    • Implement and optimize thermal management strategies to maintain cell health and performance under various environmental and operational conditions.
    • Collaborate with the battery management system (BMS) team to integrate hardware and ensure proper electrical connections and configurations.
  • Testing and Validation:
    • Conducted and supported testing and validation of battery packs, including vibration, thermal, and electrical testing, to ensure compliance with safety and performance standards.
    • Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting for battery pack issues throughout the design, testing, and production stages.
    • Collaborate with the testing team to validate battery systems in laboratory and field conditions.
    • Analyze test data to assess and verify performance and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Collaboration and Documentation:
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and quality assurance, to ensure smooth integration of battery systems into vehicle platforms.
    • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations for stakeholders.
    • Support manufacturing by resolving production issues related to battery systems.
    • Assist operations with researching and implementing new assembly technologies and process improvements.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify and implement design improvements to enhance product reliability, efficiency, and performance.
    • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in drivetrain engineering.


Position Qualifications
  • Education: BSME, BSEE, or a related field
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in lithium-ion battery packaging, high-voltage systems, or EV battery pack design.
  • Strong understanding of industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols
  • Prior experience in electric machine selection and integration for Class 8 trucks or similar heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Proficiency in CAD software (particularly Inventor).
    • Experience with simulation and analysis tools (ANSYS)
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
