Job Description

The Director of the Office of Medical Education (OME) will be a key administrative leader responsible for managing the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the medical education curriculum for ASU's new School of Medicine and Advanced Medical Engineering. This individual will ensure that the curriculum aligns with the mission of the school and complies with the standards and accreditation requirements set by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). The Director will collaborate with course directors, faculty, and the Curriculum Committee to support the effective design and delivery of the medical school's curriculum.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties.
  • Review of completed tasks; provides and reviews assigned work activities to team members for quality and achievement of set goals.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field AND ten (10) years of related experience which includes five (5) years of management/supervisory experience; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Master's degree in education, healthcare administration, instructional design, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in academic administration, curriculum management, or program development, preferably within a healthcare or higher education setting.
  • Familiarity with AAMC and LCME accreditation processes and standards.
  • Experience working with educational technology systems, particularly learning management systems (LMS).
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience working in medical education or managing health-related programs.
  • Knowledge of innovative educational practices such as competency-based education, digital learning platforms, and assessments in medical or healthcare-related field.

Essential Duties

Curriculum Development and Support:
  • Provide administrative support for the Curriculum Committee and work closely with course directors to ensure that the curriculum meets educational standards and goals. This includes assisting in the design and delivery of courses, assessments, and learning activities.
Accreditation and Compliance:
  • Ensure the curriculum adheres to AAMC and LCME accreditation standards. Work with the school's leadership to prepare accreditation reports, self-studies, and other necessary documentation for maintaining accreditation.
Office of Medical Education Leadership:
  • Develop and oversee the Office of Medical Education (OME), managing daily operations and staff. Provide leadership in organizing educational resources, training materials, and administrative processes to support curriculum delivery.
Assessment and Evaluation:
  • Oversee the collection and analysis of data related to student performance and curriculum effectiveness. Use data from evaluations and assessments to inform curriculum improvements and ensure ongoing compliance with accreditation standards.
Educational Technology and LMS Integration:
  • Collaborate with the educational technology team to develop and implement a robust Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver the medical curriculum. Ensure that the LMS supports faculty and students, integrating innovative tools to enhance the educational experience.
Collaboration and Communication:
  • Act as a liaison between the School of Medicine's administrative team, faculty, and external stakeholders, ensuring that all parties are aligned in delivering high-quality medical education. Represent the Office of Medical Education at meetings, conferences, and on relevant committees.
