JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Facilities and Operations serves as a member of the district's leadership team and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the school's physical infrastructure, maintenance, operations and the district fleet. This includes managing facilities, ensuring a safe and efficient learning environment, overseeing custodial and maintenance staff, budgeting for facility improvements, and coordinating school events and logistics. The goal of this position is to provide leadership and vision for all aspects of the district's finances and operations in such a way as to provide the best possible educational services for our students within the financial resources available.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED required College degree or equivalent training, experience, and/or certifications preferred CDL license required with P & S endorsements or ability to obtain Minimum of 5 (five) years management-level experience in planning, renovation, remodeling, routine maintenance, building code, and supervision of progressively more responsible or expansive experience Excellent interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication skills Previous supervisory experience in a similar grounds, utility, or site maintenance operation Experience with schools or state agencies is preferred Experience with budgets and capital improvements Self-motivated and self-directed Oversee all building functions
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Assume responsibility for the overall direction and management of school facilities maintenance and operation, grounds, and planning for new technologies and future growth under the general direction of the Superintendent, and in accordance with Board objectives and policies. Assigns and directs all custodial and maintenance personnel. Responsible for continuing training for all current custodial and maintenance personnel. Develops effective and efficient systems for all custodial and maintenance services, preventative maintenance services and work orders. Completes the detailed inventory of physical plant; also responsible for the technical library consisting of plans, specifications, shop drawings, manufacturer's literature, etc., on all buildings and equipment therein. Completes the development of maintenance standards and guides for each building. Develops safety work rules for employees and conducts a continuous safety program. Selects, recommends for purchase and evaluates products relating to operation and maintenance supplies, equipment and tools. Responsible for appropriate bidding and purchase of supplies, equipment and tools. Supervises, inspects and evaluates the work, and certifies satisfactory completion for payment. Responsible for inventory and distribution systems for supplies, equipment and tools. Develops schedules for periodic inspection, preventive maintenance and service of buildings and equipment. Works with building administrators so that proper custodial and maintenance services are provided for all activities. Represents the Superintendent in working with the architect and construction manager on construction projects. Undertakes major responsibility for evaluating all building services personnel. Perform up to 40 hours per week of custodial/maintenance work. Check road conditions and advise the Superintendent on school closings and delays. Oversight of the Transportation Fleet. Responsible for the upkeep/repair of the school district's equipment including the school car, truck, tractors, mowers, etc. Ability to utilize the work order and email systems. Ability to drive school bus on routes and trips on an as needed basis. Perform all other duties as assigned to him/her by the Superintendent/Designee. Works collaboratively with the Superintendent, Board, and leadership team in budget development and long-term planning. Maintain working knowledge and follow Board policies. Available to undertake any other assigned tasks from the Superintendent or Board of Education.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of people.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
