Position Summary
The Chief Radiation Therapist manages the technical staff (Radiation Therapists and Radiation Therapy Students) at the Spartanburg and Pelham locations and oversees the clinical operations of the Radiation Oncology patient treatment areas. This leader plays an integral part in organizing and monitoring the treatment section to meet the needs of those patients receiving Radiation Therapy services.
The Chief Radiation Therapist will supervise and train all therapy personnel, attend and participate in department committees and meetings, assist the department in meeting goals and objectives, and oversee proper charge capture procedures for radiation therapy services. The management of the radiation therapist staff includes maintaining proper staffing levels, hiring, and terminating staff as appropriate, performing performance evaluations, and initiating any disciplinary action as needed. The Chief Radiation Therapist reports to the Director of Radiation Oncology.

Minimum Requirements
Education
- Associates Degree in Radiation Therapy
Experience
- 3-5 years in a progressive radiation oncology department
License/Registration/Certifications
- Current ARRT certification in Radiation Therapy
- License through SCQRSA

- Bachelors Degree in Radiation Therapy
Preferred Experience
- 5-7 years in a progressive radiation oncology department
Preferred License/Registration/Certifications
- Member of the ASRT
- Member of the SCSRT
Core Job Responsibilities
- Manages accurate radiation services to patients.
- Assists and adapts in meeting department goals and objectives. Creates learning objectives for the therapy staff with learning instructions and competencies that are completed yearly.
- Manages and schedules therapy staff to various equipment, establishes work goals, and reviews employee performance.
- Recommend task assignments and other organizational changes.
- Promotes and empowers staff learning of new skills to engage the staff in the entire Radiation Therapy team process.
- Schedules and organizes equipment training and looks for new equipment and techniques to keep the therapists up to date in the radiation therapy field.
- Ensures necessary supplies are available.
- Indicates independent actions, judgment, and decision-making.
- Makes critical decisions regarding clinic operations.
- Must be able to withstand the stress and demands of an active position.
- Must be able to withstand many long hours of standing, Walking, stooping, bending and sitting.
- Must be able to lift or move patients and equipment as needed.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination and adequate vision needed in daily operation of high-tech equipment.
- Must be able to respond calmly and efficiently in a crisis situation.
- Must be able to lead and direct work of others to insure organization and accuracy in all areas.
- Must be able work as team member with peers, departmental staff, as well as other hospital staff.
- Work independently and be on call after hours as assigned.
