Vice President of Strategic Workforce Development and University Centers
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the President and serving as a key member of the President's Cabinet, the Vice President of Strategic Workforce Development and University Centers is responsible for leading the expansion of the existing university centers as well as creating new centers to meet strategic workforce needs. The VP must possess a strong understanding of the complexities of the twenty-first-century workforce in order to drive the vision and experience to guide HU's centers. The VP is responsible for forming partnerships with employers, including state and municipal governments, to build and market all manner of education programs to meet employer needs in alignment HU's educational programs. As an innovative and entrepreneurial STEM institution, HU's Workforce Development, under the strategic leadership of the VP, provides a comprehensive array of capacity-building workforce development solutions. These include open-enrollment professional development courses, specialized certificate programs, customized training, and contracted projects, all designed to help companies and individuals succeed.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES (Duties may vary and other duties may be assigned.)
Collaborate strategy and programming with external stakeholders and HU Center Directors in order to provide a diverse array of adaptable, economical, and superior services and programs. Cultivate meaningful relationships with a diverse base of constituents, including but not limited to employers, state and municipal governments, donors, grantors, industry experts, HU faculty and staff, community organizations. Manage and expand partnerships and collaborations, institute and Center offerings, attendance and revenue; manage and grow contracted training opportunities. Develop, execute, and oversee essential programs, ensuring effective management of budgets, personnel, and daily operations. Conduct a comprehensive analysis to identify program and employment needs, as well as areas for growth and improvement. Develop and oversee advisory boards and committees focused on workforce development. Hire, train, and provide overall direction of Workforce Development personnel; ensures an effective talent management system is in place and executed effectively within the team. Serve as a University Leader with competency to incorporate HU's mission and values into the Workforce Development strategies, communicate to engage and inspire internal and external stakeholders and effectively drive change by leveraging resources and creating alignment to expand organizational opportunities.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies and to develop strong, collaborative relationships with community leaders in the private and public sector. Proven ability to manage phone and in-person communication with confidence and strong customer service skills including tact and diplomacy. A strong work ethic, flexibility, initiative, creative problem-solving abilities, a high level of energy and the ability to work independently. Organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects concurrently in a deadline-oriented environment. Ability to exercise good judgment and to manage complex projects from planning through implementation. Excellent command of general business etiquette and professional demeanor. Experience drafting and submitting grant proposals and managing awarded grants. Strong research skills, attention to detail in project management and proofreading Self-starter with initiative and drive to achieve goals.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in business or a related field; Master's Degree preferred. Minimum of 7 years successful program management experience with an emphasis on programs connected to higher education and workforce training. Experience working in a non-profit/fund-raising environment preferred.
