Position Overview:

The Director of Day Treatment/ Principal of St. Catherine's Center for Children's R&E May School is responsible for the day to day operation, organization, planning, administration, supervision, and evaluation of our special education school's Day Treatment Program. This position supervises the Day Treatment Program under the leadership and supervision of the Agency's Executive Director.

Requirements:
  • Ability to work: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm.
  • Master's Degree; NYS Certification in Social Work and/or Educational Leadership.
  • Knowledge of NYS Special Education policies and regulations.
  • Five years' experience in a special education setting, with supervisory and/or program planning experience.
  • Experience in the use of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), with ability to respond effectively and therapeutically in crisis situations.
  • Local travel is required; A current Clean and Valid New York State Driver's License (actively licensed at least one year) is required.
    • Staff in driving positions must be able to meet agency's minimum requirements of our insurance policy for authorized drivers; including, but not limited to the minimum age of 21 at time of hire.
  • Ability to work with children with mental health issues, trauma and/or abuse, developmental and/or cognitive disabilities.
  • Proficiency in computer applications: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), Google Business Workspace Suite (Gmail, Google Docs, Meet, Sheets, etc.); Secure Internet practices.
  • Experience with MAR/ AWARDS/ NYS Connections.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills; Capable of building strong working relationships with regulatory bodies.
  • A compassionate, warm and caring mindset; Capable of exhibiting empathy for those in crisis.
  • Capacity and openness to work with populations from culturally diverse and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, including but not limited to a broad range of people with various developmental and functional levels.
  • Qualities of positivity, flexibility and adaptability; A professional record of integrity, proven reliability and dependability.
  • Capable of exercising ethical, independent judgment and discretion, handle sensitive data with strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to pass background check, including fingerprinting.

Duties & Responsibilities include:
  • Supervises and administers the behavioral and related services component of the Day Treatment Program according to the regulations set forth by the New York State Education Department, the New York State Office of Mental Health, the New York State Office of Child and Family Services, and according to the policies and philosophy of St. Catherine's Center for Children.
  • Under the leadership and supervision of the Executive Director, manages daily operations for the Behavior Supports, Related Services, physical plant, and specials (i.e., Art, Music, Nature Nook, etc.).
  • Implements and develops systems to support Day Treatment Strategic Plan; reports progress monitoring data to the Executive Director.
  • Works collaboratively with other agency leadership teams to ensure compliance with all departmental policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Works collaboratively with the Campus Service Team in regard to intake, resident planning, problem solving, and treatment services.
  • Manages the hiring and termination of Behavior Support and Related Services in conjunction with the Executive Director, the Director of Human Resources, and the HR Recruiters.
  • Maintains agency personnel practices and standards for all supervisees, completing all regularly required evaluations within a timely manner.
  • Works collaboratively with the Assistant Director of Day Treatment to develop recommendations and once approved, assists in maintaining budgeting components for physical plant, Behavior Support Services, Related Services, specials, Day Porter, and Front Desk support staff.
  • Manages daily opening of the school and staff assignments for Behavior Support Services, Related Services, specials, Day Porter, and Front Desk support staff.
  • Provides leadership and support for the use and implementation of effective behavior management, MTSS, Restorative Practices and TCI strategies.
  • Actively supports the goals of the agency in preventing discipline problems and in teaching social skills.
  • Ensures that Post Crisis Support steps are conducted for students and staff following critical incidents.
  • Fosters partnership with parents across the agency.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director.
