Job Title: SBA Team Leader

Job Summary:

Responsible for expanding the Bank's Small Business Administration 7a lending program with a focus on SBA lending growth, SBA loan portfolio management and team oversight. Responsible for overseeing a team to structure, negotiate and originate SBA 7a loans and overseeing the management and servicing of the Bank's SBA 7a loan portfolio. Requires extensive experience and in-depth understanding of the SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), compliance guidelines and requires a lending background including loan portfolio management, commercial lending and business development skills.

Essential Functions:
  • Develop and execute SBA loan portfolio strategies, monitor performance of loans and work to mitigate risk.
  • Identify potential SBA 7a lending opportunities utilizing internal and external referrals and evaluate eligibility, credit worthiness and product suitability for SBA 7a loan applicants,
  • Make presentations for loan approvals to Senior Management and Board of Directors.
  • Create and execute a business development strategy to generate new business opportunities.
  • Provide leadership and direction to staff and facilitate strong communication between clients and internal staff
  • Create, implement and recommend approval of lending and operating processes, procedures and controls for SBA 7a loan origination and portfolio management.
  • Keep abreast of regulations and legislation, as well as, other political and policy making events that affect the Bank, in particular to sustain compliance with all lending requirements based on all SBA SOPs.
  • Oversee and make recommendations to executive management on Bank's policies with regarding to SBA 7a loan origination and portfolio management
  • Create and sustain relationships with local centers of influence and SBA loan agents, brokers, etc. for the purpose of referrals.
  • Travel to business owner properties/locations for meetings and perform walk through inspections of commercial buildings and construction areas.
  • Interpret technical data and reports based on environmental and appraisal information while assessing properties.
  • Coach and mentor staff including but not limited to Relationship Managers, Portfolio Managers and/or SBA Loan Specialists:
    • Train and develop staff toward procedural compliance, goal achievement and exceptional customer service
    • Clearly communicate expectations of job performance and hold staff accountable for performing against expectations, goals and overall portfolio performance metrics
    • Actively participate in the performance management and career development processes for staff, including providing ongoing coaching and feedback, completing performance evaluations and proactively addressing performance issues
  • In partnership with Human Resources, manage the hiring, training and retention of staff.
  • Prepare and report production and portfolio updates to senior management for the SBA group.
  • Protect the Bank's assets and maintain quality of portfolio by adhering to lending and deposit processes, policies and procedures, legal and ethics requirements and regulations, audit requirements, and established risk guidelines
  • Compliance with all relevant Bank policies and procedures

  • Experience/Education:
    • 10+ years of SBA lending experience is required to be considered for this position
    • 5+ years of experience in Supervisory/Managerial expertise
    • BA or BS Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field is required
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial statements and legal documents
    • Strong financial analytical and underwriting skills
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Ability to lead the SBA lending team to meet production standards and portfolio management
    • Strong decision-making skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
