JOB TITLE: Director of Medical/Surgical
REPORTS TO: CNO
POSITION SUMMARY: Provides for the management of the Medical/Surgical unit. Maintains appropriate staffing levels, hires and trains staff. Reporting to nursing leadership, this position is accountable for strategic leadership of the medical/surgical and other clinical departments as assigned. Responsibilities include meeting regulatory (i.e., CMS, Title 22, etc.), specialty and national accreditation standards, employee development, physician relations, conflict resolution, capital and operational budget development, and resolution/coordination of departmental operations with other departments and respective leaders within the medical center. This director is responsible for supporting Victor Valley Global Medical Center's mission statement and plan for the provision of patient care within this clinical specialty. The incumbent will support nursing leadership in a highly diverse range of issues such as transitioning this service line and subsequent departmental cultures to respond to a rapidly changing complex market. This director is responsible for facilitating patient flow from other units, increasing physician loyalty through the provision of clinical quality and service excellence, instituting new services, supporting positive physician relations, etc. Responsibilities include 24-hour service line accountability and the provision of requisite staffing, employee education and development, patient safety and quality monitoring of services rendered. Preforms all other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: BSN or equivalent preferred. MSN preferred. A minimum of 4 years of Acute Care nursing experience is required. A minimum of 1 year supervisory experience in an acute care setting is preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a current California RN license, BLS, ACLS certifications. Basic dysrhythmia required within 120 days of hire or status change.
