Description:
Beveridge & Diamond, P.C. seeks a Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA or the Act) associate with three to four years of experience to join our firm. The ideal candidate should have significant expertise in drinking water regulation and experience with the SDWA and its implementing regulations, including standard setting under the Act (e.g., MCLGs, MCLs, HALs).
The ideal candidate should have significant expertise in drinking water regulation and related disciplines, a clear interest in environmental law, a strong academic background, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Tort litigation experience is a plus. The candidate should be enterprising and have a strong desire to become a leader in the field of environmental law.
Candidates must have the following qualifications:
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school with excellent academic credentials.
- Status as an active member in good standing of the bar in at least one state jurisdiction and, for a position in the Baltimore, Boston, New York, or Washington, DC offices, the ability to obtain licensure in the relevant state within 6 months of hire.
- Demonstrated experience with the SDWA and its implementing regulations, including standard setting under the Act (e.g., MCLGs, MCLs, HALs) and corresponding Primacy State Drinking Water programs.
- Experience with EPA science-based risk assessment and risk management related to drinking water regulation.
- Experience with rulemaking challenges under the SDWA, including administrative record litigation (drafting motions and briefs in SDWA cases).
- Experience with the negotiation and defense of administrative and statutory enforcement orders, including SDWA Section 1431 orders.
- A working knowledge of the SDWA Underground Injection Control (UIC) program.
- Strong analytical, research, writing, and oral communication skills.
- Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, the ability to work well under deadlines, and the ability to assume significant client responsibilities.
- Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
- College degree in physical science/environmental studies is a plus.
- Located in the Eastern Time Zone.

In accordance with the laws of the jurisdictions in which this position may be filled, the base salary range for this position is $200,000 - $220,000 annually depending on qualifications and experience. The compensation for this position may also include a discretionary annual bonus and an hours-based bonus.
