Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is seeking a full time Anatomical Pathologist / General Pathologist for Chinook Regional Hospital starting immediately. Chinook Regional Hospital is a regional institution located in Lethbridge and is the referral centre for 9 smaller rural hospitals. The catchment area has a population of 180,000 and serves the geographic area of south-western Alberta. Chinook Regional Hospital is a 310 bed acute care facility and provides a comprehensive service for most specialties and has an onsite cancer centre. The successful candidate will join a team of 8 laboratory physicians and is required to have excellent skills in surgical pathology and cytopathology.
APL is a multi-site, province-wide laboratory organization providing comprehensive laboratory services and is an independent, but publically funded organization that is a wholly owned subsidiary of Alberta Health Services (AHS). Chinook Regional Hospital collaborates closely with APL in Calgary which serves as a specialized tertiary referral centre.
The Chinook Regional Hospital laboratory has sections of anatomical pathology including cytology, hematology and transfusion medicine, biochemistry and microbiology and most testing is performed onsite in Lethbridge. Comprehensive onsite immunohistochemistry is available. 21,000 surgical specimens, 2,600 non-gynecologic cytology specimens and 190 bone marrow biopsy specimens are processed annually.
Job Summary & Responsibilities
The Anatomical Pathologist / General Pathologist will report directly to the Regional Laboratory Medicine Site Chief in Lethbridge who in turn reports to the Medical Director, South Sector (APL) and the provincial Chief Medical Laboratory Officer.
The Anatomical Pathologist / General Pathologist must maintain the highest possible standards of practice including prompt delivery of services to match established key performance indicators and provincial metrics, must actively participate in quality assurance and quality improvement programs, and teaching when required.
In accordance with the Canadian Foreign Workers requirements, all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians citizens and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority. Qualifications
Qualifications include a MD, eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta, and certification in Anatomical Pathology or General Pathology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or Anatomical Pathology/Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.
