The Department of Emergency Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, College of Health Sciences, University of Alberta, in partnership with Alberta Health Services, Edmonton Zone, is inviting applications for a full-time Academic Emergency Physician at the Assistant Professor level, with expertise in emergency medicine and at least one related area(s) of scholarship.
The successful candidate will be a physician (MD) certified in emergency medicine by either the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC-Emergency Medicine) or the College of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC-Emergency Medicine), and be eligible for licensure with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). The ideal candidate will have received advanced training in epidemiology or a related health research methods (i.e., graduate studies programs [Masters or PhD]). The successful candidate would be asked to consider a future alternative funding arrangement termed the Academic Medicine Health Services Plan (AMHSP), if created.
The University is seeking a candidate who will enhance the academic interests of the Department as well as the impact in emergency medicine specific research areas, including but not limited to the following:
Educational Scholarship;
Knowledge Synthesis and Knowledge Mobilization Research specific to the discipline of Emergency Medicine;
Health System Outcomes;
Clinical Informatics;
Quality Improvement.

The successful applicant will be expected to mentor and teach residents, supervise summer and elective research students, and are encouraged to support graduate students. The role involves membership on the DEM Research Committee, participation in research strategic priority setting, and the development of an independent research program. Expectations include knowledge dissemination and research impact, reviewed annually with the Chair and the Dean of the Faculty.
