The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology in partnership with Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health, invites applications for an Echocardiographer/Clinician Investigator to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital and Mazankowski Heart Institute. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world's top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada's premier health-education institutions.

The world class Division of Cardiology at the University of Alberta, focused on ensuring excellence in clinical practice, research and teaching, is an integral part of the Department of Medicine and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, a state-of-the-art facility that provides tertiary and quaternary cardiac care services for the City of Edmonton, Northern Alberta, and parts of British Columbia, Yukon, Nunavut, Northwest Territories and portions of Saskatchewan. The Mazankowski Heart Institute boasts a state-of-the-art Level 3 ECHO lab utilizing all advanced echo diagnostic programs and procedures. The ECHO lab is integral to our Advanced Heart Failure, VAD and Structural Heart Disease programs. In addition, the University of Alberta and Mazankowski Heart Institute are home to some of the premier programs in the country in the areas of Acute Coronary Syndromes, Advanced Heart Failure, Multimodality Imaging, Interventional Cardiology, Structural Heart Disease, Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Diseases of the Aorta, Mechanical Circulatory Support, Cardiovascular Surgery and Pulmonary Hypertension. There is an increasing presence in Inherited Disorders and vibrant Cardiac Oncology program. The Mazankowski Heart Institute is unique, providing both Pediatric and Adult Care with regular collaboration with the Pediatric colleagues. The University of Alberta is also home to a highly successful post graduate Internal Medicine, Cardiology and several Cardiology Fellowship training programs with Area of Focused Competency (AFC) accreditation in Echocardiography and Interventional Cardiology. The successful candidate will join a group of 36 cardiologists. In keeping with our vision statement of exemplary patient care, discovery and education; the successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow and develop in a premier institution.

The Division of Cardiology boasts successful internationally recognized research in Acute Coronary Syndromes, Heart Failure, Pulmonary Hypertension, outcomes, basic and translational research. In addition, the University of Alberta/Mazankowski Heart Institute has an international reputation in ECHO innovation and research in 3-D, contrast and stress Echocardiography. The successful candidate will be expected to have a presence in collaborative and investigator-initiated research.

Key accountabilities of the Echocardiographer Clinician Investigator will include but will not be limited to: Equitable ECHO laboratory service/afterhours ECHO call, Outpatient General Cardiology Clinics, Inpatient service, Emergency Triage, research and equitable share of Division of Cardiology's undergraduate and postgraduate teaching commitments.

A contingent tenured appointment at the rank to be determined within the Department will be offered to the successful candidate, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent. He or she will be eligible for certification in Cardiology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. As well, he or she will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and have Level 3 Echo Fellowship training and have shown success in research. Expertise in ACHD and Structural/Intervention echo and additional training in/or experience in medical education is strongly desired.
