Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Director of Human Resources at Variety Care is part of the overall Human Resources team which includes NorthCare HR and reports to the VP, People and Culture. The Human Resources Director is responsible for providing direction, oversight, and administration of the human resources functions for Variety Care. This individual partners with the business operations and leadership team to create and sustain a highly engaged and productive workforce. Works through staff to plan, direct, and implement strategic HR initiatives and programs, policies, procedures, and practices. Directs the recruitment, employee retention, compensation and benefits administration, training, and employee labor relations activities for the HR department. Directs the leadership and staff development strategic initiatives for Variety Care.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides leadership and direction to the human resources staff ensuring competent and creative delivery of professional services. Supports the development of the human resources staff to effectively partner with leadership and serve as subject matter experts. Provides guidance and oversight for the human resources management team within the department.
  • Plans and coordinates human resources policies and practices. Promotes good employee relations principles. Acts as liaison between human resources, the workforce, and leadership.
  • Utilizes staff resources to plan methodologies for effective implementation of recruitment/retention strategies, workforce planning, and succession planning initiatives.
  • Provides guidance and supports operating management on the development of employee relations strategies and programs with an emphasis on Patient-Centered Medical Home and being the employer of choice. Provides advocacy and support for both staff and leadership in the resolution of workplace issues.
  • Serves as a member of the leadership teams and assists the executive team to ensure human resources services are aligned with the strategic business imperatives of Variety Care.
  • Leads HR staff in the areas of talent management and total rewards to implement best practices in compensation programs, succession planning, leadership and workforce development, and performance management.
  • Ensures adherence to all regulatory, diversity, and compliance requirements. Maintains appropriate record keeping, organization statistics for administrative and regulatory purposes.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of human resource related operational policies and procedures, strategic plans, systems and related initiatives subject to the general oversight of the CAO.
  • Represents Variety Care on human resources and labor relations policy matters before the Executive team, the Board, and other constituencies.
  • Attends meetings and participates on committees as required. Maintains professional affiliations as appropriate and participates in professional activities to keep abreast of development in the profession.
  • Support Variety Care's accreditation as a Patient-Centered Medical Home and our commitment to provide care to all Variety patients that is Safe, Effective, Patient-Centered, Timely, Efficient, and Equitable. Provide leadership and work with all staff to achieve the goals of the "Triple Aim" of healthcare reform-to improve the experience of care, improve health outcomes, and decrease healthcare costs.

  • Requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge:
  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Human Resources Administration, Business Administration or related field with five (5) years' experience.
  • Human Resources certification (PHR or SHRM).
  • Experience communicating clearly, effectively and professionally in person, by telephone, by computer, and in writing.
  • Experience maintaining appropriate confidentiality in program administration and interactions with contractors, consultants, experts and others.
  • Experience exercising sound judgment and decision making.
  • Experience making recommendations on complicated and difficult program matters and present them effectively to governing authorities.
  • Experience providing leadership direction, and developing staff and programs to meet evolving strategic initiatives.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and HRIS software.
  • Ability to travel to other Variety Care health centers as needed.

  • Preferred requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge:
  • Professional certification in human resources.
  • Healthcare-related human resources experience.

  • Essential Job Functions:
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Able to concentrate and prioritize work.
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to ten pounds.
  • Travel to other Variety Care health centers as needed.
