The Criminal Intelligence Branch of the Criminal Investigative Division provides strategic, tactical, domain, and collection management functions in support of efforts to detect, deter, and defeat significant criminal threats through collaborative intelligence analysis and intelligence-based investigations and operations.
The Criminal Intelligence Branch seeks experienced Intelligence Analysts possessing the following skills:
Strong writing and analytical skills to produce a variety of tactical, operational, and strategic products;
Exploitation and integration of various data sources;
Collaboration and liaison skills with federal, state, local, and/or private sector partners;
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
Flexibility and ability to work in a challenging environment; and

Permanent candidates or candidates that complete two (2) years in the National Capital Region (NCR) while on term assignment may be eligible to receive this one-time relocation incentive. For permanent positions, the selectee will receive transfer orders (including a cost transfer, if applicable) through the Assignment and Allocation Unit (formerly known as Transfer Unit) and will report within 90 days. Permanent candidates who meet the eligibility requirements to receive this one-time Relocation Incentive would receive the greater of (a) 25 percent of their base salary or (b) $25,000.
**As of July 1, 2013, any employee under a Relocation Incentive Continuing Service Agreement (CSA) who fails to complete two (2) years in the NCR while on temporary assignment or accepts a new position that results in leaving his or her current FBIHQ division or field office prior to the conclusion date listed on the CSA will be held liable for the prorated value of a broken CSA. Key Requirements
- Must be a current, permanent FBI GS 9, 11, 12, 13 IA or non-supervisory GS 14 IA, GS 14 SIA.
- IA candidates must be eligible for a move and must have completed the probationary period as well as, and completed 1 year in current position by the closing date of this posting.
- Must be able to obtain an SCI clearance, which will require the completion of multiple forms.
GS 9:
- Assist in the preparation of collection instructions, guides, and manuals for FBI entities and interaction with outside entities to facilitate their initiatives.
- May assist the senior analyst in debriefing sources liaison services, individual(s) arrested, and/or detainees to exploit the intelligence information for analysis.
- Provides basic analysis to include collation of raw, primary, and secondary data derived from various sources such as automated data base systems, operational intelligence reports, miscellaneous communications, case files, internal and external automation systems, and other sources. After determining the validity and veracity of the information gleaned from reliable sources, present all pertinent information to the appropriate senior analysts or case Agents. If discrepancies are found, locate and verify the legitimacy or veracity of data.
- Prepare parts of more complex studies or reports that include aspects related to their specifically-defined geographic or functional area.
- May participate in interagency committees and meetings as representatives of the organization or functional area.
- Evaluate incoming reports and information, and performs interpretations and projections under the guidance of senior analysts.
- Prepare basic descriptive and current reportorial intelligence reports to higher-level analysts and superiors in their assigned area of responsibility.
- Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, executive orders, and directives promulgated by the Congress, Attorney General, the Director of the FBI, and the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to achieve goals and objectives.
- Project and predict data for estimates of future situations.
- Manage the collection and dissemination of raw intelligence information from FBI investigations, sources and contacts to the intelligence, policy, and law enforcement communities.
- Prepare finished intelligence reports.
- Identify relevant data sources and other ensuing leads that may evolve during the preparation of the briefing material.
- Produce self-initiated strategic finished intelligence products for intelligence dissemination and executive awareness to include talking points and white papers.
- Evaluate a program or case involving complex and/or conflicting priorities, and provide recommendations to executive management.
- Complete operational planning, targeting and vetting, based upon effective interaction with the policymakers, intelligence and law enforcement communities.
- Research a major geographical area or technology issues with world-wide implications.
- Plan, prepare, and present written and oral briefings to senior internal and external customers and analytic counterparts on significant intelligence issues; clearly articulates complex concepts to non-expert customers and tailors the product to correspond to customer needs.
- Address analytic gaps and points of disagreement.
- Cultivate, and maintain collaborative working relationships with colleagues, experts, IC members, policy committees, and law enforcement agencies, as appropriate, and leverages these relationships to share information of interest.

- Limited Movement: Policy has been implemented wherein support employees entering a position through a competitive OR non-competitive action may be precluded from moving to another position within the Bureau by means of reassignment or change to lower grade for a minimum of 12 months. HRD will waive this limited movement policy for qualified employees, who have received an official notification letter that their current position is being relocated to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama by 2024, so those employees can compete for a position elsewhere.
- Probationary employees are precluded from being considered for all job opportunities until 12-months of their 24-month probationary period has concluded. Probationary employees may be considered for competitive vacancies that are advertised within their respective division or field office after serving 90 days within the FBI.
