Airlift Northwest - Assistant Director of Operations - Eastern Washington

RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Operations

PURPOSE: Responsible for operations of Airlift Northwest (ALNW) Eastern Washington in collaboration with the Director of Operations. As needed, perform the Flight Nurse role and other leadership duties as assigned, ensuring that the ALNW mission is being adhered to and policy and procedures are being followed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Air medical strategy, planning, and implementation

1.) Reports directly to the Director of Operations

2.) The Assistant Director of Operations is responsible for regional and base-level operations.

3.) Partners with the Executive Director, Director of Operations and Director of Business Development to create and deliver operating plans focused on the mission of UW Medicine and Airlift Northwest.

4.) Works closely with Director of Operations to analyze emerging needs and trends for Eastern Washington operations and strategy.

5.) Proactively identifies barriers and develops innovative strategies with Director of Operations to support the mission of Airlift Northwest.

6.) Establishes strong working relationships with representatives of partner agencies and other transport agencies.

7.) Collaborates with executive leadership for contract negotiations that impact Eastern Washington operations.

8.) Evaluates and communicates operational effectiveness, internally and externally.

9.) Establishes priorities, reviews, and suggest projects.

Team Leadership

1.) Serves as a focal point for day-to-day executive-level communication to clinical staff at multiple levels to lead change, build team cohesion, and develop a shared mental model.

2.) Ensure 24/7 operational readiness and staffing.

3.) Assist Chief Flight Nurse (CFN) and Director of Operations with interviewing, hiring, and training of new flight staff. Evaluate new staff during training and current

staff regularly to ensure clinical, customer service and operational requirements are being met.

4.) Oversees staff performance evaluations for Eastern Washington based staff and contributes to evaluations for float staff.

5.) Responsible for ensuring mandatory and other recurrent education and training is available to ALNW staff and that staff members complete such training as required.

6.) Assist in monitoring required certifications and licenses

7.) In conjunction with the Director of Operations, monitors and take corrective action as needed to address staffing and clinical issues.

8.) Provide clinical instruction to ALNW staff members and serve as an education resource.

9.) Staff recruitment and retention.

10.) Ensure other members of the ALNW Management Team are kept informed of all pertinent matters related to the existent and new ALS, EMS, and Healthcare facilities relationships.

11.) Responsible for collaboration with Director of Operations for creation and administration of the budget for Eastern Washington operations.

Regional Outreach

1.) Participate in community organizations/committees such as Regional EMS and Trauma Councils, State Committees, State Disaster Management, and others which may have an impact on the delivery of care and services in the WAMI Region.

2.) Be an active member in professionally related organizations.

3.) Provide instruction to Community, Public Safety and Healthcare Organizations to help them better understand ALNW services and capabilities, as necessary. Initiate outreach meetings with various hospital administrators at the guidance of Executive Director.

4.) Provide regular input to marketing and outreach directors.

Administrator on Call (AOC)

1) As assigned (via rotational shift, approximately 25% of the time), act as on-call Manager for the entire ALNW operation. Is responsible for all operations of ALNW, including making decisions in areas such as patient care, staffing, safety, resource allocation, media relations, facilities management, security, and human resources.

Flight Nurse Role

May perform flight Nurse duties up to 20% of the time as needed to ensure the continuous delivery of patient care and customer service.

REQUIREMENTS

*Bachelor's degree in nursing required.

Completed or in-progress Master's degree in Nursing, Health Administration, Business Administration or Public Health is required.

*Certifications: Professional certification. ACLS, BLS, PALS, NRP, ATLS, TNCC.

*Required Experience: At least five years air medical care experience (RN in an air medical services environment). At least one year in an air medical services leadership role, preferably with ALNW (may run concurrent with air medical RN experience). At least five years' experience in the provision of critical care environment (may run concurrent with required air medical experience).

*Other: Current WA RN license

*Skills:

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as public relations expertise.

- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

- Proven track record of exceptional customer service.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

- Skilled in interpreting and analyzing operational and clinical data to inform decision-making.

- Working knowledge and experience with project management methodologies.

- Ability to collaborate effectively and build relationships with partner agencies.

- Skilled in resolving conflicts and fostering agreement among varied stakeholders, promoting collaborative solutions and nurturing positive working relationships.

- Capable of adapting and responding effectively to changes in policy, technology, and air-medical industry trends.
