Senior Director of Platform Engineering

As the Senior Director of Platform Engineering, you'll oversee the foundational tech systems that power our development lifecycle and maintain our platform's scalability, security, and reliability. You'll lead the teams responsible for infrastructure, DevOps practices, QA automation, Developer Experience (DevEx) tooling, observability, and platform services. Your work will provide essential support to our product and engineering teams, enabling them to deliver high-quality software efficiently. This role is both strategic and operational, ideal for a leader ready to optimize and scale our platform while fostering innovation, developer productivity, and automation.

Strategic Leadership:

• Define and execute the long-term vision for platform engineering, improving operations across infrastructure management, quality engineering and test automation, and developer experience.
• Partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Security teams to align platform investments with product roadmaps.
• Establish success metrics to improve operational efficiency.

Team & Culture:

• Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing platform engineering team
• Build and maintain a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and excellence within the team.
• Collaborate with leadership to ensure alignment between platform goals and business priorities.

Technical Leadership:

• Drive the architecture and strategy for scalable, secure, and reliable infrastructure across multiple environments.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines for higher quality and faster software delivery.
• Develop a roadmap to elevate developer experience, including self-service resources, streamlined tooling, and local development environments.
• Oversee QA automation strategies, integrating automated testing into CI/CD processes to enable consistent, high-quality releases.
• Lead the adoption of best practices in observability, monitoring, and incident management to maintain high system availability and rapid response times.

Operational Excellence:

• Manage DevOps practices to ensure a scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud infrastructure.
• Champion automation and self-service capabilities, empowering teams to move faster with reduced dependency on platform engineering.
• Actively participate in coding, architecture reviews, and infrastructure decisions to ensure hands-on technical leadership.

What you bring:

• 12+ years of experience in platform development with at least 5+ years in a leadership role driving high performance engineering teams
• Proven experience leading and growing a platform engineering team
• Experience leading cloud infrastructure, and building and deploying secure, reliable and scalable distributed applications
• Experience building best practices around quality engineering and test automation
• Expertise in establishing observability frameworks (monitoring, logging, tracing) and implementing best practices for incident management to maintain uptime and reliability
• Experience in delivering platforms and tools that empower developers to ship high-quality code faster.
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with a track record of building and nurturing high-performing, diverse, and inclusive teams.
• Previous experience working in start-up or scale-up environments, with hands-on experience solving complex challenges while navigating the dynamic needs of a growing business

Nice to have:

• Experience with AWS services such as SNS/SQS, Step Functions, ECS
• Experience with work orchestration or other related automation platforms
• Experience with a MERN + GraphQL stack
