Description:

The Director of Facilities, Engineering, Safety, and Environmental Services is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of facility operations, engineering, safety, and environmental compliance. This includes the strategic direction, planning, and execution of maintenance, capital projects, engineering support, and environmental initiatives to ensure a safe, sustainable, and efficient work environment. The Director will lead a multidisciplinary team, collaborate with various departments, and work closely with senior management to ensure the organization's facilities and operations meet all regulatory requirements, safety standards, and sustainability goals. The role requires a balance of technical expertise, strong leadership, and the ability to drive operational excellence while ensuring cost-effectiveness and risk mitigation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Facility Management: Oversee the operations and maintenance of all facilities, including building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing), grounds, and equipment, ensuring optimal functionality and compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Engineering Oversight: Lead engineering initiatives related to facility design, construction, renovations, and improvements. Manage capital projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and local codes. Develop and implement safety programs, conduct audits, and mitigate potential risks.
  • Sustainability Initiatives: Champion environmentally sustainable practices, ensuring energy efficiency and the reduction of waste, water, and energy consumption in line with organizational goals.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of facilities, engineering, and safety professionals. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and safety.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Develop and manage the department's budget, ensuring cost-effective solutions for facility management and capital improvements. Approve vendor contracts and service agreements.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with senior leadership and other departments to align facility and safety objectives with the organization's overall goals. Provide expertise and guidance on facility planning and risk management.
  • Emergency Response and Disaster Recovery: Develop and implement emergency response plans, business continuity strategies, and disaster recovery protocols to ensure the safety of employees and the protection of assets.

  • EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
    • Bachelor's degree in engineering (or related fields) or 10 years' experience required.
    • 5 years of responsibility at a director level in areas of engineering, maintenance, and construction in a healthcare institution required.
    • Proficiency in CMMS Systems, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook preferred.
    • Previous Facilities and Plant Operations management experience in an acute care hospital setting is required.
    • Ability to meet established goals and objectives.
    • Possesses strong knowledge and understanding of hospital mechanical, electrical and structural systems.
    • Must have knowledge and expertise in NFPA, TJC, CMS, HFAP, EPA, and OSHA codes and regulations with experience in interpreting and implementing.
