Summary

The Office of Institutional Advancement seeks an entrepreneurial and creative fundraising professional to serve as the Senior Director of Foundations and Corporate Relations. This position will be a strategic partner in developing, managing, and sustaining external partnerships that generate revenue to support the mission of William James College (WJC). The Senior Director will serve as a member of the WJC Advancement leadership team and work closely with the Chief Development Officer to design and implement strategic fundraising initiatives to increase revenue from Foundations, Corporate Partnerships, and Government Grants.

The ideal candidate has a track record of fundraising success and leading teams. Has secured multiple six- and seven-figure gift closures as well as experience in short- and long-term planning for ongoing philanthropic support. A successful candidate will have an aptitude for managing complex projects and excellent interpersonal skills, with the intellectual curiosity to partner with academics on cutting-edge programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Set goals, strategies and priorities for the Corporate Partnerships, Foundations and Government grant programs to ensure alignment on institutional priorities, strategic use of staff resources, and developing best practices.

  • Collaborate with college leadership, and faculty to brainstorm and generate new opportunities for BMC and manage partnership and proposal development.

  • Ensure effective intercommunication among Development staff and maintain momentum across all fundraising initiatives; identify opportunities to streamline operations and optimize resources.
  • Work cross-functionally with the Major Gifts team to maximize and deepen relationships with individuals and companies.
  • As appropriate, integrate corporate engagement strategies into college-wide activities and events.
  • In partnership with the office of advancement and WJC colleagues engage new and current corporate partners and foundation relationships.
  • Increase the visibility of WJC leadership and experts with funders through robust cultivation and stewardship plans.
  • Lead the development and implementation of Corporate Partnerships, Foundations and Government Grant strategies to achieve annual revenue targets
  • Set annual goals for identifying new prospects and securing revenue from foundations, corporate partners and government grants
  • Coordinate with program leaders and other key staff to evaluate prospects and build-out relationship-building strategies.
  • Grow a pipeline of high-capacity corporate and foundations partners.

  • Shape organizational and program strategies that align corporate and foundations funding opportunities.

  • Evaluate the current staff resources, identifying additional resources and skills necessary for the optimization of each team's capacity.
  • Empower the staff to maximize funding opportunities and submit the most competitive proposals possible through ongoing training and dissemination of new/modified strategies and analysis of regional and national funders of significance.

Education/Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree


  • 10 plus years relevant fundraising experience.


  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and strategic direction and motivate, guide, support, and manage multiple priorities in a positive, collaborative environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills


  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.


  • Excellent grammatical skills: lively, engaging writing style, and demonstrated ability to create correspondence for large groups.


  • Excellent presentation skills and an understanding of Microsoft Office and experience with non-profit CRMs.


  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.


  • Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude.
  • Ability to work under pressure of deadlines and maintain an extremely high level of attention to detail and professionalism.


Additional Information:

  • This position will have the option of working remotely two days per week (subject to change)
  • Occasional weekend or evening hours may be required for advancement-related events
