ABOUT THE JOB

The Tepa Companies are seeking a Senior Technical Editor/Writer (STE) to write and edit the content of high-quality technical documents, proposals, and reports for the Tepa Companies' Construction Services (Construction, Industrial) and Professional Services (Environmental, Engineering, Technologies) companies for the federal, state, municipal, tribal, and private sector markets. The STE is responsible for writing content and proofreading technical documents, reports, and Tepa's Data Asset Management (DAM) platform entries for correct grammar, spelling, content, and acronyms. This position is responsible for mentoring Technical Editor/Writers and junior staff and will support members of the business teams nationwide (Executive Vice President, Business Development, Project/Proposal Team) through the management, preparation, and timely delivery of compliant edited content and documents.

Job Functions:
  • Provides technical editing of proposal documents, marketing/communications materials, and reports for federal, state, municipal, tribal, and private sector clients in the fields of construction, industrial services, architecture, engineering, environmental, and technologies.
  • Utilizes MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) to edit and manage documents and Tepa's DAM platform.
  • Works independently and in collaboration with subject matter experts, proposal and project managers, and marketing/communications staff to refine written text for clarity .
  • Communicates via email, phone, video, and in person to clarify and gather information.
  • Mentors and supports other Tech Editors and junior staff during high-volume proposal workload periods.
  • Mentors/trains staff in the efficient use of Office 365 (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint), OpenAsset, and the Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) to organize and manage the technical editing process.
  • Provides feedback about Tech Editors and junior staff skills, abilities, and areas of improvement needed to the Technical Editor Development Manager
  • Reviews/edits grammar and spelling as required in documents and reports.
  • Review, research, analyze, update, and edit information on Tepa's DAM platform (OpenAsset) .
  • Edits documents and DAM data with attention to detail in order to maintain continuity of information and document style based on the Tepa style guide
  • Develops and implements process improvements, including training aides, to help improve Tepa document and report quality.
  • Provides tech editing in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner to meet deadlines.
  • Applies communication and interviewing skills to gather needed information from internal and external personnel to support writing and document development activities.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with subject matter experts, proposal and project managers, marketing/communications staff, and leadership within the Tepa Companies.
  • Refines written style to adhere to Tepa guidelines and create clear, persuasive, and articulate documents that speak with one Tepa voice.
  • Develops and maintain document content in Tepa's cloud-based DAM platform.
  • Works with Tepa personnel to translate complex ideas into easily understandable document text.
  • Maintains a comprehensive library of technical terminology, government acronyms, and documentation.
  • Develops skills related to presenting progress reports, analyses, and business cases with professionalism to multiple levels of leadership.
  • Provides direction and oversight to supporting writers.
  • Conducts meetings after review of technical edited documents to discuss lessons learned.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.


WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, English, journalism, business, or relevant technical editing experience
  • Minimum eight or more years of experience creating, developing/writing, and editing proposal documents, marketing/communications collateral, and client reports
  • Recent experience writing and editing complex technical documents and reports for federal, state, municipal, tribal, or private sector
  • Recent experience writing, editing, and reviewing complex technical construction, industrial, architecture, engineering, environmental, or technologies industry documents
  • Experience working alone and in a collaborative team environment to develop (interview and write), edit, and tailor documents and reports
  • Experience interviewing and researching internal and external resources and personnel (project managers, subject matter experts, engineers, scientists) to obtain all necessary information and documentation to create/write document content
  • Experience training, mentoring, and supporting direct reports
  • Experience editing a variety of proposal types (i.e., with multiple volumes, multiple phases, and seed projects/sample problems)
  • Experience editing documents developed under a joint venture and/or by teaming partners and key subcontractors
  • Experience working with, and understanding, confidential company information as it relates to financial stability, industry credibility, and proprietary information
  • Experience coaching subject matter experts and other writers to write to the same standards
  • Experience working with the federal business market and familiarity with federal procurement process
  • Advanced skills utilizing Office 365 (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) to create, format, and edit documents and reports
  • Ability to articulate complex technical subject matter to non-experts in a clear and understandable way
  • Strong writing and editing skills and attention to detail on complex technical documents and reports for federal, state, municipal, tribal, or private sector
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment
  • Written and verbal communication skills via email, phone, and in person
  • Ability to think strategically and be detail oriented as it relates to writing and editing content
  • Ability to mentor, train, and support junior staff
