The Opportunity
The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall management, maintenance, and operation of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems on the vessel. The Chief Engineer ensures the safe and efficient functioning of the vessel's machinery and equipment and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.

The Opportunity
The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall management, maintenance, and operation of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems on the vessel. The Chief Engineer ensures the safe and efficient functioning of the vessel's machinery and equipment and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
Engineering Operations:
- Assume full responsibility for the operation, maintenance, and repair of all machinery and equipment on the vessel.
- Monitor and optimize the performance of propulsion, power generation, HVAC, plumbing, and other auxiliary systems.
- Implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and maximize reliability.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs with external contractors.
Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with maritime regulations and industry standards.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify and address safety hazards or equipment deficiencies.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and safety drills.
- Collaborate with relevant authorities and agencies to meet safety and environmental compliance requirements.
Team Management:
- Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and safety consciousness.
- Provide guidance and support to the onboard team in handling maintenance tasks and addressing technical challenges.
Budget and Inventory Management:
- Develop and manage the engineering budget, monitoring expenses and optimizing costs.
- Maintain inventory levels of spare parts, tools, and supplies required for maintenance and repairs.
- Monitor procurement activities, ensuring timely delivery of required items within budgetary constraints.
- Collaborate with procurement and finance departments to ensure cost-effective operations.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate engineering logs, records, and reports related to vessel operations and maintenance.
- Prepare reports on equipment performance, maintenance activities, and budget utilization.
- Liaise with classification societies, regulatory bodies, and auditors for inspections and audits.
- Stay updated with industry regulations, technological advancements, and best practices in marine engineering.
Qualifications
- First Class Engineer on motor ship
- 3-5 years of previous experience as a Chief Engineer or in a similar role within the maritime industry
- Excellent comprehension and command of the English language; (written & verbal);
- Microsoft Office knowledge
- Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test prior to hiring and potential random tests throughout employment with prior notice.
Working Conditions
- Constant standing and walking throughout shift
- Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50lbs
- Frequent kneeling, pushing, pulling and lifting
- Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps
