Summary
The role of Cost Engineer is to ultimately ensure cost projections are complete, accurate, and timely. This financial management position works in partnership with operations by directly supporting teams to ensure projects perform consistently in accordance with project plans by staying within budget targets, adhering to internal controls, contract terms, and regulatory requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Cost Analysis:
  • Works with PMs to assess cost projections for reasonableness against project conditions
  • Review project risk conditions with PM and field supervision to ensure appropriate level of exposures are incorporated into monthly cost projections
  • Review Project Schedule and actual conditions in the field to maintain critical path
  • Review Owner Billings for accuracy and appropriateness
  • Review change order logs for completeness and recordation in Vista or other change order applications
  • Review project health reports for reasonableness and anomalies
  • Review Submittal, RFI, and Closeout Logs
  • Review QMS (Schedule) Documents

Reporting:
  • Prepare (monthly/quarterly) executive summaries detailing profit changes (Fin Watch list)
  • Assist project teams with preparing specific financial risk mitigation/recovery plans
  • Assist project teams with preparing bi-monthly executive update presentations
  • Helps develop and maintain internal rates, Labor, Burden, Insurance, and others

Audit:
  • Perform contract reconciliations between owner contract and Vista contract setup
  • Ensure proper internal rates are properly being recorded in the Vista job cost ledger
  • Ensure integrity between monthly project financials and monthly financial work in progress schedules
  • Lead project level audits and coordinate with project team and Accounting Department
  • Assist project teams in preparing for potential financial claims

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance, Engineering, or Construction Management
  • 5 + years' experience in cost analytics
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting principles and cost control procedures.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities
  • Knowledge of project development stages, procurement, project controls and construction execution practices is required.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency (MS Office - Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency and meet challenging work goals
  • Ability to maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
  • Ability to possess and maintain exceptional work ethic as well as uphold company values and demand the highest standard of conduct from self and others

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Minimum of 3-5 years related work experience
  • Knowledge of Viewpoint Vista software is desirable
  • Experience working in the construction industry in the project management or project controls capacity

Other:
  • Valid Driver's License, ability to maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record, and ability to adhere to the KA Motor Vehicle Policy.
  • Travel
