Background:

This job posting is intended to collect resumes for candidates who are interested in serving as a Operations Director in an office for a New Member of Congress. The expectations, duties, and skill areas of the position represent a sampling of what may be expected in a Congressional office. Actual job expectations, duties, skills, and other requirements for a Operations Director position may vary by office. Sample Job Expectations:

The Operations Director will be expected to work closelywith the Chief of Staff and District Director to coordinate the Member'sofficial schedule and briefing materials. The Operations Director will act asthe Member's liaison with other Congressional offices, constituents, and otherVIPs including executives from the public, private, and non-profit sectors.

Sample Job Duties:
  • Works with the Member, Chief of Staff, and District Director to determine and finalize the Member's daily schedule and briefing materials (e.g., memos, talking points and speeches)
  • Oversees coordination with other Member offices, Committees, the White House, and Executive Departments and agencies
  • Oversees coordination between law enforcement agencies and help plan and finalize advance logistics for Member's public events
  • Oversees coordination with communications team and district staff to schedule radio and television press interviews
  • Determines and deploys technologies to streamline office operations (e.g., message management). Processes and oversees official travel and official move arrangements
  • Assists and coordinates with Chief of Staff and other supervisors ondrafting and finalizing performance evaluations for relevant staff

Sample Requirements:
  • Experience coordinating several scheduling activities with multiple parties
  • Able to manage varying priorities and adapt to ever-changing situations
  • Experience handling sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality
  • Adaptable and organized
  • Strong decision-making skills and comfortable navigating and advising others through challenging situations
  • Experience using technical knowledge to improve office operations
  • Experience managing official records within an office

Sample Preferences:
  • Bachelor's degree or related job experience
  • Prior Capitol Hill and/or scheduling experience is preferred
  • A demonstrated interest in public service
