The Lactation Network is hiring a Vice President, Compliance Officer. Reporting to the CEO and General Counsel, this position will serve as the company's compliance officer and privacy officer and will play a critical role in fostering a culture of compliance while navigating the dynamic landscape of our business. This position will also collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, providing guidance, training, and strategic insights to drive compliance excellence.

Reporting to the CEO and General Counsel, this position will serve as the company's compliance officer and privacy officer and will play a critical role in fostering a culture of compliance while navigating the dynamic landscape of our business. This position will also collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, providing guidance, training, and strategic insights to drive compliance excellence.

Breakdown of the role
- Development and Implementation of Compliance Program (70%) - You will lead the development and implementation of the company's compliance program, including compliance with the privacy requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), to ensure the company's compliance with relevant federal and state laws.
- Education and Training (20%) - You will assist with educating the company's stakeholders on the importance of compliance and provide tailored training to various company stakeholders, including the board, leadership, and employees.
- Monitoring Regulatory Developments (10%) - You will remain up-to-date on federal and state laws applicable to the healthcare industry and International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) and provide timely guidance on adhering to changes in existing laws and the development of new laws.
Reporting to the CEO and General Counsel, you'll have responsibilities that include:
- Developing and implementing written policies and procedures, including standalone policies and procedures, as needed, and for incorporation in the company's compliance plan and HIPAA privacy plan
- Providing leadership and oversight for the implementation of the company's compliance plan and HIPAA privacy plan
- Conducting compliance training and education
- Promoting and monitoring compliance reporting channels for purposes of establishing effective lines of communication with the company's compliance function
- Overseeing the enforcement of the company's compliance standards
- Conducting regular risk assessments to identify compliance risks and vulnerabilities and oversee and manage compliance auditing and monitoring
- Overseeing and managing the company's response to compliance incidents and violations, including investigating allegations, developing and implementing corrective actions, and partnering with Legal where appropriate
- Fostering a culture of compliance awareness and accountability throughout the company
- Developing strategies to address emerging compliance risks
- Preparing and submitting compliance reports to the board, executive leadership, and the compliance committee, as required
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date compliance documentation and records
- Performing other compliance related duties as assigned by the CEO or General Counsel
- 8 - 10 years of relevant business or compliance experience
- 5+ years of experience in compliance leadership roles within the healthcare industry working directly with senior leadership, revenue cycle management teams, and management
- Certification as a Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) or Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) or willingness to work to obtain one of these certifications within the first year of employment
- Deep understanding of federal and state healthcare and privacy laws, regulations, and industry standards, including the federal Anti-Kickback Statute and HIPAA
- Superior attention to detail to identify compliance gaps and risks that may lead to non-compliance
- Effective problem-solving abilities that can be leveraged to identify root causes, develop innovative solutions, and implement corrective measures
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving compliance needs of the company
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A collaborative personality
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to accurately interpret complex regulations and apply them to real world scenarios
- Strong time management and organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines
- A strong moral code and sense of ethics
- Experience developing and implementing clinical policies and procedures
- Experience with or knowledge of managing compliance relationships between management services organizations and practice entities
- Knowledge of medical coding
- Additional compliance related certifications, including Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or Certified Professional in Medical Services Management (CPMSM)
