The leader in this seat will provide leadership,direction, management, and accountability to the operations of Student Servicesat Colorado Mesa University. This personworks collaboratively with the President and the Vice Presidents forAcademic Affairs, Finance and Administration, for Community College Affairs,for Marketing, for Facilities, for External Affairs, the Foundation, and forAthletics to effectively establish and meet the role, mission, and goals of theUniversity.

OVERVIEWAND SCOPE OF TEAM AND/OR TASKS
The leader in this seat is responsible for the overalldirection, coordination and evaluation of the following areas:
  • Recruitment and retention strategy,
  • Campus safety and student conduct,
  • Mental and physical health services including oversight of the campus health clinic,
  • International programs,
  • Campus Recreation Center,
  • Campus Housing and Residence Life, and
  • Student Life operations including engagement and belonging initiatives.
  • And any other areas/duties as assigned.

These responsibilities include development of effectivepolicies and measurements to ensure continuous program review and evaluation,and budgetary oversight of the various functional units, working as appropriatewith the Vice Presidents for Finance, Academic Affairs, and Community CollegeAffairs, as well as coordinating enrollment management. Enrollment Management includes Admissions,IRIS (one stop advising/financial aid), Financial Aid, and programs that assistin retention for continuing students.

This position administers the contracts for campussafety/campus police, student mental health services, and student health clinicservices.

As part of the expectations of this position, the personwill Initiate and develop relationships with community members and communityorganizations to promote the university and its programs.

Student Services is a RESOURCE HUB and will help allstudents gain access to resources both provided by the university andthroughout Mesa County. This person willmeets with students, parents, and other appropriate parties to resolvequestions/issues about college policies and procedures relating toregistration, financial aid, housing appeals, student disciplinary matters andgraduation.

These are the top priorities for this position. However,there are many more intricacies to each department that this seat oversees.Other duties and functions as assigned.

ACCOUNTABILITYTO RESULTS
The person in this seat will be evaluated on skillsand abilities to lead, manage, and hold accountable the Division of StudentServices (approximately 90 employees) for raising the level of attainment forall students entering Colorado Mesa University. This person will assist in all aspects of recruiting and retainingstudents with the goal of growth of 1% (FTE) each year.

Each program that is overseen by this person ishighly visible and will be evaluated through the participation rates ofstudents. Engagement should be key.

Ensure that each department has the support andresources it needs to meet the annual goals it sets for helping to attain theultimate goals listed in the Strategic Plan.

  • This position requires timely responses and willingness to be available 24/7 (unless planned vacation).GJPD is a direct contact for this person and all emergency calls will route this way when the Director of Safety and Conduct is unavailable or simultaneously.
  • Excellent written communication skills are necessary as this position sends campus-wide communications.
  • Must be mobile to get around campus in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to drive to other campuses and property owned by CMU.

ESSENTIALSTO BE SUCCESSFUL
The position requires amaster's degree from an accredited institution of higher education; an earneddoctorate is preferred. Position alsorequires demonstrated, substantial experience managing complex multi-variedorganizations.
