Job Summary:
This ACE R&D Engineering position will focus on strengthening the aerodynamic development activities at ACE. This critical Engineering position requires strong proficiencies in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Automotive Performance Engineering and core operational support for Research, Development and industry focused testing centered mainly in ACE's Climatic Aerodynamic Wind Tunnel. Projects include developing and strengthening expertise in aerodynamics and the deployment and use of ACE's Moving Ground Plane (MGP) technology, and other aero projects. This position will involve customer facing testing, employee training, academic learning, and direct involvement with core engineering operations, and other relevant technology development that supports Engineering projects at ACE. Additional technical responsibilities include assisting in researching, specifying and procurement of equipment and supplies, assisting in the development of operational protocols, and support for industry, research and related outreach activities.
The work elements will include designing, setting up experiments and operating the climatic wind tunnel, model wind tunnels, climatic chambers, climatic 4-Poster, hemi-anechoic chamber multi-axis simulation table and assisting with research and training activities including activities in the ACE Integrated Research and Training Facilities. The additional responsibilities include implementing end-to-end innovative solutions for an ever-expanding number of market segments.
Responsibilities & Nature of Work:
Responsibilities include customer interaction, operational leadership and support, development of tests and programs, including instrumentation, engineering development, and test development for the equipment, all based on customer requirements. It will also include the management, understanding and operation of all the process equipment including the CWT, Moving Ground Plane, Force balances, Particle Image Velocimetry measurement, Instrumentation, 4-Poster & MAST with the focus on vehicle aerodynamic measurement using a moving ground plane and aerodynamic instrumentation.
The position will be for a Research and Development Engineer (or EIT eligible) with expertise and demonstrated experience in vehicle force measurement and the use of a moving ground plane, motorsport technology and innovation, automation and instrumentation controls and programming. The position will also include client management, the setting up of physical properties for testing, and supporting vehicle/physical property issues and new business/research opportunities.
Additional responsibilities may include design and assembly of apparatus, developing innovative ideas, improving existing systems, creating, designing, building, mentoring students, and supporting research and development. The markets include automotive, architectural/civil, defense, media, human performance, human factors, aerospace, UAV, and other opportunities in an ever-expanding number of market segments.
ACE is a multi-shift operation that include afternoons and weekends. The candidate must be flexible and prepared to work periodic afternoon or evening shifts and irregular hours as operational needs require. There may also be occasional travel requirements. Facility operational hours are from 8 am to 12:00 midnight with core day shifts from 8am to 4pm and other period shifts including 4pm-12 midnight or 12 noon to 8 pm (Monday -Friday) but occasionally may include weekends. This position requires that employees be physically present on-site.
The candidate must demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management and co-workers. Must have clear, concise and accurate communications skills in English, both verbal and written. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk to self or to others. Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner.

Required Skills & Experience:
- Minimum three years' work experience as an engineer or equivalent in an automotive, manufacturing and / or vehicle product development
- An equivalent combination of education and relatedexperience may be considered.
- Professional Engineers Ontario license (Preferred) or license eligible
- Demonstrated proficiency with computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
- Demonstrated competency in aerodynamics
- Demonstrated product development experience
- Demonstrated automotive/motorsports experience preferred
- Experience in automotive design, development and testing
- Experience in project management, supervision, risk identification and prevention
- Experience with machine and instrumentation controls and troubleshooting
- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
- Good problem-solving skills, organizational skills and the ability to deal with ambiguity
Required Education:
- Completion of a four year BSc degree in Engineering (Aeronautical/Aerospace, Automotive, Mechanical or Mechatronics preferred)
- Master's Degree in Engineering (preferred)
- An equivalent combination of education and relatedexperience may be considered.
