Role:
- Teach 24-units of assigned courses mathematics at the baccalaureate level. Area of specialization is open but must be able to teach both upper- and lower-division mathematics courses. Teaching needs to be determined in consultation with program director or department chair.
- Engage the AIMS Foundation and serve as a liaison from the University on related projects and programs that advance mathematics education.
- Mentor and advise undergraduate students with majors in mathematics or related areas.
- Curriculum development as needed, including collaborative efforts across programs and GE.
- Participate in departmental and university meetings, activities, and areas of service.
- Pursue an active scholarly agenda consistent with expertise.
- Potential to serve as the program coordinator/director with commensurate faculty load for program administration.
Qualifications
Required:
- Earned master's or doctoral degree in mathematics, statistics, or a closely-related field such as graduate mathematics education.
- Evidence or promise of excellence in undergraduate instruction.
- The person appointed to the AIMS Chair in Mathematics will be oriented towards growing math and science teachers for valley schools and beyond.
- Appointee must demonstrate subject-matter competency and teaching effectiveness.
- Ability to network and work harmoniously with faculty, staff, administration, and students.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to cross cultures and to understand and advance diversity.
- Ability to address and model the integration of Christian faith and the field of biblical studies.
- Experience in, or aptitude for, college-level teaching.
- Ability to work harmoniously with students and faculty colleagues in a regional university with its foundation in the liberal arts and sciences.
- Record or promise of scholarly achievement.
- Commitment to the Christian faith and the University's mission of Christ-centered teaching and learning and involvement in a local church.
Preferred:
- Evidence of potential to provide leadership at the departmental level.
- Desire to participate in and develop research projects with undergraduate students.
- Experience teaching in Computer Science Software Engineering curriculum.
- Expertise in computer-based algebra system(s), especially open-source systems such as SAGE or R.
- Programming skills (Python, Java, C++, etc.).
- The ability to teach in Spanish.
Environmental Conditions:
- Indoors in a normal office or classroom environment
- Frequent computer use at a workstation, up to six hours per day.
- Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
- Public contact position requiring professional apparel, personal hygiene, and grooming.
Physical Demands:
- This position typically functions indoors in an office environment with light to moderate noise associated with business office equipment. The position may involve travel for meetings and events.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: remain in a relatively stationary position 25 to 50 % of the time, operate a computer and keyboard and other office productivity machinery such as calculators/copy machines/printers. The employee is occasionally required to position self to reach items on the floor and in high cabinetry.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Employee must be able to communicate with others to exchange information including both over the telephone and in-person communication with callers and community members and be able to read a computer screen and paper documents.
