Position Summary:
The Division of Student Affairs is a forward-thinkingstudent success operation committed to its role as the leading custodial unit guiding the student experience at the University of NorthernColorado (UNC). Staff members within the Division are expected topositively contribute to our mission of supporting students in theco-curricular environment and provide an experience that inspires students academically, intellectually, personally, and emotionally.
The Director of DisabilityResource Center (DRC) is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadershipto the programs and services of the DRC in support of the academic mission ofthe university. This position is responsible for assessing, planning,directing and evaluating programs; developing,recommending, and implementing policies and procedures that advance program access;ensuring that all DRC services are offered in compliance with federal, state,and local regulations; and supervision and evaluation of assigned personnel. The Director ensures the implementation of appropriateand effective academic accommodations, housing accommodations, and dining accommodations. The Director is part of ateam that is dedicated to improving educational outcomes for all students,including those from historically marginalized identities.
The position servescollaboratively with the University and its diverse stakeholders to develop andimplement innovative approaches to enhance student learning and services andprovide a student- centered learning environment. The Director coordinates services with faculty, Student Conduct and Accountability, Student Outreach andSupport, UNC Counseling Center and other mental health providers, the Office ofInstitutional Equity and Compliance, Human Resources, New StudentOrientation/Transition programs, Campus Recreation, and Conference & EventServices.
The position is the campus expert on student related matters regarding accommodations, equal access, and disability and is responsiblefor acting as a spokesperson for the University on disability related matters.This person also advises the various schools and colleges, departments, andunits of the University regarding understanding, adhering to, and developingpolicies and procedures for equal access, accommodations, and disabilitymatters within the legal framework of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and their amendments. The officeprovides the University with resources, education, and direct services to sothat the institution can create a more welcoming and inclusive environment, incorporatingaspects of Universal Design.

Job Duties:
Leadership and Visioning: 40%
- Provides institutional leadership to students' equal access and accommodations to all courses, programs, services, activities, and facilities offered at the University under the ADA, including program eligibility, access services, accessible testing, adaptive technology and alternative format services, and Deaf and Hard of Hearing services.
- Ensures the provision of services to students with disabilities, allowing students equal opportunity to perform successfully in the academic, programmatic/co-curricular, and social environment of the university while maintaining academic standards.
- Develops and implements strategic vision for Disability Resource Center in alignment with institutional priorities and Student Affairs curriculum.
- Conducts regular assessment and program reviews in accordance with Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) and other appropriate professional competency standards; collects and reports annual data and statistics regarding student use of programs and services.
- Assists with institution-wide policy revision and implementation as related to equal access, accommodations, and disability support.
- Serves on university and student affairs work groups such as Assessment and Data Governance, Strategic Planning, and/or Communications.
- Stays apprised of federal, state, and local laws and UNC policies that inform accommodations and accessible practices, including the ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and guidance from federal agencies (i.e., the Department of Justice, Office of Civil Rights, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, etc.) and UNC's Discrimination Complaints Procedures.
- Directs special projects on behalf of the Division, as assigned.
Supervision and OperationsManagement: 40%
- Directs hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of three full-time staff (both Classified and Exempt) and indirect supervision of two professional staff, several graduate assistants and student employees.
- Oversees the general daily operations of the DRC program to ensure protocols and procedures are followed by office personnel and that budgeted resources are properly directed.
- Engages in ethical and fiscally responsible budgeting practices. Forecasts and allocates fiscal, human, capital, and technological resources to align with strategic vision. Manages the budget for the unit including accommodation funds, operating funds, labor, and personnel expenses.
- Leads staff in determining eligibility and provides direct assistance to students concerning physical, programmatic, and technological access to the university in accordance with the requirements of ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Creates systems to gather and maintain accurate data and case files related to accommodations.
Education and Outreach: 20%
- Works collaboratively with faculty and staff to advise and coach on issues of accommodation, compliance with statutory requirements, and their rights and responsibilities.
- Develops and maintains educational materials to educate campus community on supporting students with disabilities, trends, and relevant compliance issues.
- Facilitates educational programming and in-service training and education for students, faculty, and staff, including New Student Orientation, New Faculty Orientation, and others.
- Establishes, maintains, and promotes effectiverelationships with relevant campus offices and external agencies to enhancecollaborative partnerships to preserve the rights of students withdisabilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Minimum requirements include anearned bachelor's degree.
- Preferred qualifications includean earned Master's Degree in Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling,Counseling, Professional Psychology, College Personnel Administration, and/orrelated field.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years' experiencein progressively responsible administrative positions in disability support oranother related student services area.
- Experience working with studentswith disabilities in a higher education setting.
Working knowledge of theAmericans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. - Preferred: A strongunderstanding of current issues related to students with disabilities in highereducation.
