Starting salary is $85,704.71/year with opportunity for overtime. Excellent benefit package begins immediately.
The City of Portage is hiring for the full-time position of Fire Lieutenant. This position provides leadership, direction, and supervision to firefighters and performs the duties of a Fire Lieutenant when responding to incidents and with other programs and activities of the Fire Division.
Candidates must have a must have the following:
Fire Fighter I and II Hazardous Materials Operations Fire Officer I required; Fire Officer II preferred. FM123 (VFIS or McNeil) Fire Instructor I - Preferred
Firefighter I & II/HazMat Operations, Fire Officer I certifications, ICS courses, and Michigan MFR, EMT or Paramedic licenses must be attached to the application for verification.
Selected candidate must have ability to pass a background check and a driver license record check. Post-offer requirements include physical, alcohol/drug screen, and psychological evaluation.

- Michigan Fire Fighter Training Council Certifications:
- Medical First Responder (MFR) or EMT - Basic highly desirable.
- NIMS ICS 100/200/700/800 required - 300 Preferred
- Associate degree is preferred.
