POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Director of Banquets is responsible for ensuring the efficient and seamless operation of all banquet functions. The role requires close coordination with the union, adhering to established contracts, and fostering a positive relationship between management and union members.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Operational Management:
- Oversee all aspects of banquet operations, ensuring events run smoothly and guest satisfaction is achieved.
- Work closely with the sales and catering teams to review and implement event orders.
- Ensure that set-up, service, and tear-down of events adhere to the hotel's standards
Union Relations
- Maintain open communication with union representatives, addressing concerns promptly and professionally.
- Ensure adherence to union contract provisions, rules, and regulations.
- Participate in union meetings as needed and work on resolving any disputes or grievances in collaboration with HR
Staff Management
- Lead, train, and mentor banquet staff, ensuring they understand and adhere to hotel and union standards.
- Schedule staff according to event needs, ensuring compliance with union rules regarding shifts, breaks, and overtime.
- Handle performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and any other staff-related concerns in accordance with union agreements.
Financial Management
- Monitor the banquet budget, ensuring cost control and maximizing profitability.
- Work with the procurement team to manage inventory and order necessary supplies.
- Ensure proper billing for events and collaborate with the finance department for accurate revenue tracking.
Client Relations
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with clients, ensuring their needs are met and expectations exceeded.
- Handle client feedback and address any concerns promptly and professionally.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure all operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Promote a safe working environment, ensuring staff adhere to safety procedures and protocols.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a unionized hotel environment.
- Strong understanding of union regulations and contract stipulations.
- Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and handle high-pressure situations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and customer service orientation.
- Proficient in hotel management software and MS Office.
