Ducks Unlimited, Inc. (DU), the world's leading wetlands and waterfowl conservation organization, is seeking a driven civil engineer to join its team. The selected candidate will work closely with a highly motivated conservation team of biologists and engineers, contributing to the planning, surveying, design, and construction of wetland restoration projects. Based out of the Fort Collins Field Office, which oversees projects across seven states, this position focuses on Colorado, Wyoming, and western Nebraska.
Qualifications:
Candidates should hold a B.S. in Civil Engineering or a related field and have a minimum of two years of relevant experience. Additional experience is valued, as we seek someone passionate about this work. Applicants must be registered as EIT or PE.

Responsibilities:
Ducks Unlimited engineers manage a variety of wetland, riparian, and habitat restoration projects, overseeing them from feasibility through construction. Responsibilities include scoping and proposal development, surveying, drafting, engineering design, project bidding, construction staking, field inspection, and construction management. The successful candidate will build and maintain relationships with state and federal personnel, private landowners, and conservation partners.
This role involves travel and occasional work outside normal business hours. Week-long travel will be required periodically, with the majority of travel consisting of day trips arranged to accommodate project needs, personal schedules, and contractor availability. Overnight stays will depend on the candidate's and project's location. Weekend work is rare.
Specific duties include:
Benefits/Pay:Salary ranges from $65,000 to $100,000 per year, based on experience and education. DU offers a competitive benefits package, including a 401(k) plan with partial employer match and tuition reimbursement.

- Proficiency in hydrology, hydraulics, open channel flow, and experience with earthen dams, spillways, and related structures.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, including the ability to develop detailed construction plan sets while utilizing alignments, corridors, feature lines, profiles, and grading tools.
- Experience in surveying, construction staking, and inspection, cost estimation, and project management is beneficial.
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are critical.
- Self-motivation, goal orientation, and excellent problem-solving abilities are desired.

Specific duties include:
- Collaborating with biological staff and participating in project meetings.
- Applying principles of engineering, surveying, and construction management.
- Producing engineering designs, reports, and technical specifications.
- Drafting construction plan sets.
- Conducting field inspections and managing construction contractors.
- Serving as a contracting officer, creating bidding documents and managing budgets.
- Performing fieldwork, including strenuous outdoor activities in remote areas operating ATVs.
- Willingness to work outside normal business hours, travel overnight, and occasionally extend travel for the work week.
- Supervising technician staff and representing Ducks Unlimited professionally.
- Demonstrating knowledge or experience in western water law, particularly Colorado water law
