Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise, evaluate, and recommend the hiring and termination of skilled craftsmen, lead custodians, grounds supervisors, and support staff assigned to maintenance department.
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Professional Supervisor Personnel.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; district vehicle

Primary Purpose:
To enhance the education, management, and support activities of the school district by providing comprehensive maintenance, custodial and energy management services and in-house capital improvements.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction, or a related field OR
- Training and experience equal to or exceeding that knowledge normally gained through graduation from a certified college or university plus five (5) or more years of experience operating a maintenance department in a public school setting
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Demonstrate the familiarity with functions relative to Maintenance & Operations
- Knowledge of basic principles of construction, school plant maintenance, and custodial operations
- Ability to conduct on-site inspection of district facilities
- Ability to manage budget and personnel
- Ability to implement policy and procedures
- Ability to interpret data and read blueprints and schematics
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
- Some supervisory experience in maintenance operations preferred
- Experience in maintaining a large plant or building preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Building Maintenance and Repair
- Oversee, direct and administer an effective and efficient Maintenance and Operations Services Department.
- Coordinate Maintenance and Operations activities to compliment the educational program.
- Plan long range needs of future Maintenance and Operations programs.
- Provide information to school planner and architects concerning plans and specifications for remodeling or construction of new facilities.
- Coordinate capital improvement projects with principals and central office administrators.
- Test and specify supplies and equipment for Maintenance and Operations.
- Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with school administrators, district employees, and community members.
- Establish and maintain effective communications.
- Provide technical assistance to division and department heads to carry out applicable requirements of the safety legislation, products, and developments.
- Establish and maintain an effective preventive maintenance program.
- Assist in inspection of all district facilities and grounds, code compliance, and safety of facilities.
- Develop and maintain written departmental procedures for maintenance, repair, and operations of all district buildings and equipment. Ensure work orders are processed and executed in a timely manner.
- Prepare plans and specifications for contracted repair work and site improvement for submission to purchasing department for bids.
Policy, Reports, and Law
- Develop, prepare, distribute, coordinate, and maintain written departmental policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain a cost-effective organizational plan for the department.

- Ensure compliance with federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required including timekeeping records.
Budget and Inventory
- Manage and control the Maintenance and Operations budget. Compare expenditures to other districts to insure efficiency.
- Direct and administer an effective and cost efficient energy utilization plan.
- Recommend disposal of obsolete equipment and purchase replacement equipment when necessary.
- Initiate purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies.
Personnel Management
- Recruit, select, train, and evaluate Maintenance and Operations personnel and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
- Organize Maintenance and Operations awards program.
Safety
- Utilize labor, materials, and equipment in a safe and efficient manner to obtain Maintenance and Operations goals.
- Provide staff development activities and conduct safety in-services as necessary.
- Keep abreast of new safety legislation, products, and developments.
- Maintain safety standards in conformance with federal, state, and insurance regulations and district requirements and develop a program of preventive safety.
- Participate in development of the district's disaster plan and be prepared to take an active role in responding to emergencies as needed.

- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
