The General Counsel oversees the Legal and Compliance for SafePort. The individual in this position will work with a dynamic team of dedicated professionals who are committed to excellence in all aspects of managing the company and its compliance. Primary responsibilities include serving as primary contact for any regulatory investigation or issue, coordinating outside counsel, managing official copies of Company documents, overseeing corporate governance, and any other necessary duties. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of property and casualty insurance laws, regulations, and practices, and the ability to deliver work products with a high level of accuracy while consistently meeting related deadlines.

Essential Functions
- Lead the legal function for SafePort
- Manage internal risk and help formulate legal and other initiatives to reduce risk
- Draft a wide multitude of legal documents
- Negotiate and review contracts
- Coordinate corporate governance for all entities
- Manage corporate document repository
- Navigate and make strategy decisions on litigation, working closely with VP of Claims and external counsel on the same
- Navigate legal disputes and decisions (whether to handle internally, involve external counsel, potentially drafting docs, etc.)
- Assist or lead compliance initiatives, including drafting policies and procedures
- Ensure ongoing compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and guidance
- Work on the legal side of internal strategic initiatives, like acquisitions, operational changes and enhancements, new business lines, etc.
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders and decisionmakers, regulators, other attorneys, referral sources, etc.
- May perform other related duties and special projects as assigned or requested
Minimum Requirements
Education, training, and experience:
- A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited US law school
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience in insurance, specifically the property-casualty arena
- Experience with market conduct examinations
- Experience in consumer complaints
- Experience in claims litigation
- Experience in property-casualty insurance highly preferred
- Litigation experience highly preferred
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Thorough understanding of corporate governance and contracts
- Knowledge of Microsoft office suite with expert level Word and PowerPoint skills
- Detail-oriented and the ability to deliver work products with a high degree of accuracy
- Strong verbal and written skills, and the ability to convey complex information
- Available to work across time zones with flexibility to follow-up on items outside of business hours, including weekends
- Ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy, able to prioritize effectively and meet strict deadlines, both independently and as part of a team
