Responsibilities

Position Overview:

The primary function of this position is to serve as a Flight Test Engineer supporting the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Advanced Capabilities Group with flight test planning and execution for a flight test program whose purpose is to accelerate US hypersonic technology development and transition by providing affordable, rapid hypersonic flight test capability for DoD programs, NASA, national labs, academia, and industry. This role includes working with these supporting stakeholder organizations to establish flight test processes, generate flight test planning documentation, and conduct flight test execution and training activities.

Role and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct flight test planning activities to include (but not limited to):
    • Develop communication plans, execution calendars, anomaly resolution plans, contingency plans, operation schedules, test information sheets, and operation requirements documentation.
    • Coordinate mission architecture and test resource needs in accordance with mission objectives and analysis requirements.
  • Coordinate mission execution activities as a Flight Test Director performing activities to include (but not limited to):
    • Lead working groups and planning meetings to align cross-functional teams toward mission objectives/goals.
    • Develop mission countdown processes integrated with varying launch vehicle and payload providers.
    • Generate critical execution documentation such as test director checklists and launch constraints and decision documentation.
  • Develop flight test off-nominal scenarios and conduct countdown training activities for flight test execution team(s), to include serving as a Training Test Director for multiple mission types.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise on launch vehicle operations, mission execution operations, and range operations.
  • Support the Directors of Test and Engineering in the development, implementation and integration of new and/or enhanced mission planning and operation technologies and services both locally and at planned/future launch ranges.


Qualifications

Required Education:

BS in Engineering fields (Aero, Mechanical, Systems, or related) required; MS in Engineering preferred.

Required Clearance:

Must have an active Top Secret Clearance, TS/SCI preferred; US Citizenship required.

Required Experience:
  • 10+ years of experience in planning and executing flight tests for small- to medium-class launch vehicles, including solid and liquid propulsion systems, as well as ground and air-launched assets; experience with hypersonic technologies preferred.
  • Experience interfacing with Major Range Test and Facility Bases (MRTFBs).
  • Proficiency in MS Office and MS Project.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
