Position Summary

Reporting directly to the President of Scorpius Biomanufacturing, the Vice President, Business Development provides senior leadership and strategic oversight for primarily US commercial operations of the company, with secondary business oversight internationally. The Vice President, Business Development will be responsible for driving sales, and revenue growth, and leading a high-performing team to achieve commercial targets. This position is remote. In addition, this position will be a member of the Site Leadership Team. This position requires strong leadership and technical expertise in biopharmaceutical process development and manufacturing at Scorpius BioManufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide executive leadership and strategic direction for the company's commercial operations. Effectively communicate commercial strategy, impact areas, and direction to management in a timely and concise manner.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing business development, marketing, and inside sales/proposals team, ensuring the achievement of commercial bookings and billings sales targets, and revenue growth.
  • Be responsible for the development and active coaching of the commercial team to drive yearly results, inclusive of weekly direct report meetings, specialized KPIs, drive-along coaching for BD members, and driving tradeshow results across the team.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive commercial strategy plans aligned with overall company objectives, including budgetary responsibility. Lead and shape the commercial strategy of a growing organization.
  • Drive the execution of the commercial strategy, monitor progress, and make timely adjustments as necessary. Optimize product and commercial offering to align with internal and external influences.
  • Develop and implement ambitious sales targets, collaborating with functional leadership teams to develop and execute plans for success.
  • Report progress and insights to the executive team, recommending improvements and executing per approval to drive improvement. Manage weekly, monthly commercial meetings including monthly executive reporting.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align commercial activities with company goals, exploring market expansion opportunities.
  • Optimize pricing strategies with Proposal lead to ensure Scorpius pricing is competitive and optimized for the best profitability for the company.
  • Collaborate with Marketing on service extensions to build market awareness and align business development efforts. Ensure budgetary targets are met and marketing strategies are optimized.


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. An MBA is preferred.
  • Minimum 10-12 years of Biologics CDMO experience with a focus on technical sales and business development leadership.
  • Broad knowledge of the Biologics industry, US market trends, regulatory knowledge, and competitive selling strategies.


Knowledge & Skills

  • Inspire the team to meet or exceed commercial targets. Make timely decisions on personnel and performance expectations. Set measurable targets for each commercial team member to hold accountable.
  • Proven ability to manage within a matrix organization and collaborate cross-functionally at the executive level.
  • Provide negotiation leadership in client contracting across the team while protecting the interest and integrity of the company. Responsible for the commercial team's contracting terms.
  • B2B and outsourcing experience in a related industry.
  • Familiarity with CRM and demonstrated proficiency in pipeline tracking.
  • Strong leadership skills, financial acumen, and excellent communication/presentation skills.


Physical Requirements & Working Environment

  • Flexibility is required for working hours. Some weekend work may be needed and earlier or later start/finish times may also be required.
  • Travel: 35-50%
