Job Overview

The Senior Director of Business Development is responsible for leading strategic initiatives to expand and grow the business within the pharmaceutical sector. This role requires a proven track record in identifying, evaluating, and securing business opportunities, partnerships, and collaborations that align with the company's growth objectives. The ideal candidate will have strong industry knowledge, a deep understanding of pharmaceutical markets, and the ability to drive high-impact deals from inception to execution.

Responsibilities

1. Strategic Business Development:
  • Lead the identification and execution of new business opportunities in the pharmaceutical sector, including partnerships, licensing agreements, acquisitions, and alliances.
  • Develop and implement a strategic business development plan to drive company growth and market presence.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key industry stakeholders, including pharmaceutical companies, biotech firms, contract manufacturers, and academic institutions.

2. Market & Competitive Intelligence:
  • Conduct thorough market assessments to identify emerging trends, competitive threats, and potential growth areas.
  • Provide strategic insights to senior leadership based on market dynamics, competitive landscape, and potential opportunities.
  • Track and analyze industry trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes to inform business development strategies.

3. Deal Sourcing & Negotiation:
  • Identify, evaluate, and negotiate potential partnerships, collaborations, and licensing deals to expand the company's portfolio and pipeline.
  • Lead the negotiation process for complex, multi-faceted deals, ensuring that terms align with business objectives and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, including legal, finance, and R&D teams, to structure deals that meet both business and regulatory requirements.

4. Cross-functional Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with internal departments (R&D, Marketing, Finance, Legal, etc.) to assess feasibility and profitability of potential business ventures.
  • Lead the integration process of new partnerships, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and seamless execution.
  • Serve as a key liaison between the company and external partners to ensure the successful implementation of business development initiatives.

5. Financial & Strategic Planning:
  • Develop financial models, projections, and business cases for new opportunities.
  • Manage the business development pipeline, ensuring timely delivery of key milestones and performance metrics.
  • Contribute to long-term strategic planning efforts by providing input on business opportunities, market conditions, and future directions for growth.


Qualifications - Skills & Requirements

  • Proven track record of successfully negotiating and closing high-value pharmaceutical partnerships, acquisitions, and licensing deals.
  • In-depth knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, including drug development processes, regulatory requirements, and market trends.
  • Experience in strategic market assessments, competitive intelligence, and financial modeling.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with a demonstrated ability to inspire and guide cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Highly strategic with a deep understanding of the global pharmaceutical market and trends.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically, with a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Must be legally able to work in the US without requiring sponsorship.
  • Must have reliable transportation and must be able to work overtime when required.


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Business Administration, or related field.
  • MBA or advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biotechnology) preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience in business development, corporate strategy, or related roles in the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry.
