JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Secondary (5-12) Education and Operations is a key leadership role responsible for coordinating, managing and advancing educational initiatives at the secondary level, with a focus on maximizing student achievement, promoting equity, and ensuring the alignment of curriculum and instructional practices. This position reports directly to the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Technology and works collaboratively with various stakeholders to drive educational excellence and implement the district's strategic plan.

SALARY RANGE AND FRINGE BENEFITS:
Per the NIS employment agreement 2024-25 current salary range $118,247 - $134,165 plus travel/car allowance, technology allowance, and degree credit compensation opportunity. This position has growth opportunities for qualied applicants after exemplary on the job performance.
WORK YEAR:
The position is assigned to work 12 months, 261 days per year. Some evenings are required for Board, and Ad-Hoc Committee Meetings, and/or special events.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Curriculum Development and Alignment:
- Lead the design, evaluation, and updating of curriculum to ensure alignment with state standards, district goals, and secondary-level needs.
- Collaborate with teachers, department heads, and administrators to ensure curricular coherence and vertical alignment with elementary education.
- Integrate technology and innovative instructional practices across secondary programs.
- Oversee the development of the Program of Studies, course selection processes, and implementation of Michigan Virtual and dual enrollment programs.
- Guide the use of data-driven instructional practices and support professional development for staff.
- Utilize data to evaluate program effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and make necessary adjustments to support student achievement.
- Lead Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to foster collaboration and continuous improvement among teachers.
- Serve as a Career and Technical Education (CTE) liaison, ensuring the alignment of CTE programs with industry standards and student needs.
- Manage scheduling, including class assignments, staff allocations, and resource distribution for secondary schools.
- Administer and oversee the Michigan Integrated Continuous Improvement Process (MICIP) to support district and school improvement efforts.
- Serve as the district's Title IX contact, ensuring compliance with regulations and addressing related issues.
- Plan and coordinate all monthly management meetings for secondary-level administration.
- Design, apply for, and manage all grants related to secondary education, ensuring alignment with district priorities.
- Co-lead the Human Sexuality Advisory Board
- Develop and implement professional development programs tailored to the needs of secondary educators.
- Mentor principals and other leaders, promoting continuous growth and development of leadership skills.
- Support staff in understanding and applying instructional strategies that address diverse student needs.
- Compile and analyze data from various sources (e.g., assessments, attendance, graduation rates) to evaluate secondary programs and support decision-making.
- Ensure curriculum and instructional practices comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Lead efforts to maintain school accreditation and meet compliance standards.
- Oversee all secondary assessment development, implementation, and monitoring efforts.
- Work closely with secondary school leadership, teachers, parents, and community stakeholders to promote a unied vision for academic and operational excellence.
- Act as a liaison between the school district and external educational organizations, including CTE programs.
- Attend secondary school and district events to support the efforts of students, staff, and the community.
- Develop strategic initiatives for secondary education, aligning resources to support district-wide goals.
- Oversee the implementation of the district's strategic plan objectives at the secondary level.
- Monitor and report on the progress of strategic initiatives and their impact on student outcomes.
- Oversee the coordination of dual enrollment, Michigan Virtual, and secondary course selection processes.
- Administer summer school programs and coordinate support services for secondary students.
- Lead the development and implementation of differentiated instruction across all secondary grade levels.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Master's degree, or greater, with training in school administration including qualications for a Michigan administrator's certicate.
- Three or more years of demonstrated successful experience as a building administrator.
- Proven multi year record of affecting innovative and lasting change in instructional programs that highlight progressive leadership.
- Evidence of leadership that actively and professionally challenges the status quo.
- Training and experience in supervision, curriculum design, and implementation of teaching practices.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current best practices and research in the eld of curriculum and instruction.
- Ability to effectively manage time and scal resources.
- Evidence of ability to provide quality leadership through:
- Excellent communication skills
- A conceptual understanding of human growth and development, learning theories, and teaching methodologies;
- A clear understanding of the role of assessment in student progress and student responsibilities;
- Skill in creating a positive, open, enthusiastic, and well-organized teaching and learning environment;
- Skill in fostering the continued growth of staff members;
- Skill and sensitivity in working with all members of a diverse school and community; and
- A commitment to community education concepts.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
- Master's degree, or greater, with training in school administration including qualifications for a Michigan administrator's certificate.
- Experience leading and facilitating diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and projects
- Past experience as a teacher and three or more years of demonstrated successful experience as a school administrator required
- Significant experience collaborating with teams to solve complex problems
- Significant teaching and administrative experience at multiple educational levels
- Successful experience working with systems pertaining to curriculum development, implementation and evaluation.
