Description of Position

The Director of Athletics is responsible for leading the athletics department programs, activities, and operations in alignment with the strategic vision and priorities of Yavapai College. This professional administrator position reports to the Associate Vice President of Community Relations and is a core Community Relations leadership team member. The position provides organizational leadership in the development and execution of athletic operations, policies, and procedures. Responsibilities include staff management, event management, budget management, NJCAA and ACCAC policy and procedure management, and college and community relations efforts.

Essential Functions
  • Oversees each of the seven NJCAA athletic programs by leading the coaching and support staff.
  • Oversees budget management for the entire department.
  • Oversees athletic events, including games, fundraising, and community outreach.
  • Fosters collaborative relationships with colleagues and College constituents by coordinating efforts.
  • Strategize with staff and College leadership on best practices related to athletic operations.
  • Provides oversight and supervision of the day-to-day operations of the Athletic Department.
  • Leads the athletics team by assigning duties to accomplish objectives by setting priorities, drafting annual goals, and executing strategies.
  • Regularly measures and assesses the effectiveness of athletics staff and activities.
  • Develops proposals, reports, and other correspondence in support of Athletic priorities.
  • Assign and review materials from staff as needed to achieve objectives.
  • Actively attends and supports college-related events, meetings, and activities.
  • Actively attends and supports various community events, meetings, and activities to develop relationships and build a community presence.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Expectations & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
  • Five years of full-time professional work experience in a collegiate athletic department.
  • Knowledge of/or ability to understand all NJCAA rules and compliance.
  • Success working with a coaching staff and cross-departmental relationships.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
  • Exhibit a thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and internal/external regulations pertaining to the position.
  • Lead an effective and productive Athletics staff.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

LEAVE BENEFITS
  • Vacation : 15 days of Vacation leave annually. NOTE: For employees who work an amount of contractual days, there will be no earned vacation.
  • Sick Leave: 12 days sick leave annually. NOTE: Employees working less than full time or an amount of contractual days will receive a proration of sick leave.
  • Personal Leave: Use of up to three personal leave days per year which are charged against accumulated sick leave to take care of items of personal business
