Summary of Position:
This Data Science Advisor will play a key role in transforming and modernizing land-related processes and data quality through data analytics, automation, and cutting-edge technology solutions, including Artificial Intelligence ("AI"), Robotic Process Automation ("RPA"), and Machine Learning ("ML"). The Land Data Scientist will also interface with optimizing all land geospatial capabilities. You will use your expertise in data science, programming, and automation to streamline workflows, build web applications, automate reporting, and enhance the company's land data management. This role will focus on improving data quality, identifying exceptions for clean-up, and ensuring accuracy across land and geospatial datasets. Your work will directly impact the efficiency of land and geospatial reporting, regulatory compliance, and land records management while supporting key decision-making processes.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Data Analytics & Reporting:
- Develop, optimize, and automate land-related reports from the company's land enterprise system using SQL.
- Analyze large datasets to identify trends, anomalies, and insights that will improve land management processes, land acquisition analysis, and decision-making.
- Identify and mine reliable internal and external data sources for integration and analysis to support strategic land acquisition and management.
- Automation & RPA Implementation:
- Design and deploy solutions to streamline repetitive administrative tasks such as lease records management, payment processing and division order creation.
- Design custom tools to optimize data mining, transformation, analysis, and reporting tasks.
- Identify and implement automation opportunities to reduce manual intervention and improve process efficiency.
- Leverage tools such as Flask, Streamlit, or Django to build intuitive interfaces that replace or enhance manual workflows.
- Collaborate with the Land and IT departments to integrate custom solutions with existing land management systems.
- Land Systems Management:
- Oversee the implementation and optimization of AI-powered document management systems to streamline the organization, classification, and retrieval of land-related documents, including leases, contracts, and regulatory filings.
- Ensure the integration of AI document software with existing land management systems, facilitating seamless workflows between departments.
- Optimize land acquisition analysis by integrating data from multiple sources, ensuring data quality and accuracy.
- Process Improvement & Optimization:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand current land-related processes and identify areas for improvement.
- Utilize data science and process automation to create scalable solutions that enhance workflow efficiency, reduce errors, and minimize administrative costs.
- Standardize and improve land record-keeping practices through automated data validation, quality assurance, and exception identification for clean-up.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Collaborate with Accounting, M&A, New Ventures, Transformation & Integration, Digital Transformation, land administration managers, legal teams, IT, GIS, and other departments to align data and technology solutions with business objectives.
- Communicate complex technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders and deliver data-driven insights through presentations and reports.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
- In-depth knowledge of relational databases and SQL querying.
- Good problem decomposition skills and autonomy when faced with solving data problems.
- A proven ability in process automation, workflow optimization, and RPA development.
- Familiarity with land management systems, lease data, and oil and gas regulatory compliance is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Experience with cloud-based platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) for data storage and app deployment.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) for presenting insights to stakeholders.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in data science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Advanced degree in data science or quantitative field.
- 8-10+ years of experience in data analytics, data science, or programming, preferably in the oil and gas or land administration sectors.
- Proven experience with SQL for report generation, data extraction, and database management.
- Strong proficiency in Python or R, including experience with data processing libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy) and automation frameworks (e.g., RPA tools, Selenium).
- Experience building web applications using frameworks like Flask, Django, or Streamlit.
Travel & Additional Requirements:
- Work Location: Work is performed at both field and office locations.
- Schedule: Traditional 40-hour workweek or an alternative schedule of 9-hour workdays Monday through Thursday and 4-hour workdays on Friday, as business needs allow and with manager approval.
