Job Description
The Massapequa Public School District is seeking passionate, creative, and highly motivated educators for the position of Director of Physical Education, Health, and Athletics. This role involves supervising and leading physical education, health, and athletics programs, including intramural and inter-scholastic activities. The ideal candidate will possess strong collaborative leadership, exceptional instructional skills in physical education and health, excellent interpersonal and decision-making abilities, and the capacity to build relationships. Additionally, the ideal candidate should demonstrate innovation, flexibility, and creativity in problem-solving and program development.
Job Qualifications
*NYS Certification in School District Administration (SDA, SDL) required.
*NYS Certification in Physical Education required.
*Prior experience as an Athletic Director in a public school district preferred.
*Minimum of five years of successful administrative/supervisory experience, coaching experience, and teaching experience.
Job Responsibilites
*Provide leadership, supervision, evaluation, and strategic direction to physical education and health faculty, coaching staff, administrators, and program supervisors.
*Work with the Superintendent's Cabinet to implement curriculum and instructional decisions that are in alignment with Board policies and support the successful achievement of the Massapequa Board of Education Goals, Vision, and Mission;
*Develop and present plans to the Superintendent Cabinet to assure efficient organization of the department.
*Collaborate with faculty, staff and administration to prepare and revise curricula in order to keep up with new ideas and methods.
*Coordinates and plans the equitable use of district physical facilities for all students. Proactively communicates and builds relationships to arrange procedures for facility use between Health and Physical Education faculty, the athletic department, and outside groups.
*Work with program supervisors in the development and implementation of a program of intramural after-school athletics in the School District.
*Shares the responsibility with the Superintendent's Office to ensure that all Massapequa students, including those with special skills, needs, abilities, and coordination, receive the opportunity to develop these to the highest level possible in equitable competition.
*Acts as the advisor and coordinator on all school policy concerning athletics, including student athletic codes of conduct.
*Meets regularly with coaching personnel to coordinate programs, discuss needs, settle problems, build traditions, set standards and expectations.
*Provides strategic leadership to develop long-range plans related to athletics and athletic facilities.
*Takes an active role and responsibility of public relations with community organizations, community youth sports clubs, booster clubs, local and daily newspapers and any other related groups.
*Provide leadership, supervision, and strategic direction to program supervisors in recreation and health services.
*Develop and share informational presentations and participate in collaborative conversations with the Board of Education, administrators, parents and the community.
*Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.
