Neonatal Medicine Physician, SOM, Department of Pediatrics (M67717)

Mission or Goal of Unit: Children's Hospital ofRichmond of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System is committed to ensuring the NICU is a model academic unit devoted toexcellence in clinical care, teaching, and clinical, translational, and basicresearch in neonatal disease and service delivery. The Division of Neonatal Medicine is comprised of 13 neonatologists whoseexpertise include medical education, quality improvement science, medicalethics, epidemiology, and clinical and basic research. The Division oversees the only referraltertiary level IV NICU located within the Critical Care Wing of the VCU HealthMedical Center, directly connected to the High-Risk Labor and DeliveryService. The NICU serves families andhigh-risk infants in a state of the art single room designed 40 bed NICU at Children'sHospital of Richmond. Each roomaccommodates parents for overnight stays and couplet care.

Chief Purpose of this position: The Department of Pediatrics at the Children'sHospital of Richmond of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System isseeking a full-time Neonatologist with interests and/or experience in neonatalmedicine education, research, quality improvement or mentorship. Expected responsibilities include clinicalcare, neonatal follow-up, ECMO, hypothermia treatment, and teachingresponsibilities. In addition, there arestrong opportunities to continue or establish efforts and initiatives infellowship education, including leadership, in program development or inclinical or bench research, depending on background and interest. Neonatologist who will provide a mix of directclinical care, clinical or QA/QI activities, didactic and bedside teaching for students,residents and fellows, and pursuit of a plan of academic efforts that mayinclude research or other activities that meet the needs of the division andthe individual.

Position Responsibilities:

• Teaching: Faculty member will have teaching responsibilitieswithin the clinical services of the division. Faculty member will provideteaching and mentorship to medical students, Residents, Chief Residents, andFellows when applicable.
• Research: Faculty member will participate in scholarlyresearch activities that can include basic science, clinical, translational, orother research endeavors.
• Service: Faculty member will serve on divisional,departmental, or School of Medicine level committees when appropriate, andengage in professional activities through journal review, conferencepresentations, etc.
• Clinical: Faculty member will serve as a Neonatologist forthe Department of Pediatrics. Clinical schedule will include weekends,holidays, and nights.
• Other: Faculty member will take on administrativeduties associated with this role.

Required Qualifications:

• Board certified in Pediatrics and board eligible/certified in Neonatal medicine
• Experience with clinical care
• Experience in an academic medical center
• Experience with scholarly research activities
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
• NRP certification
