PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To ensure the effective leadership and management of schools in a alignment with state standards, accountability requirements, and the district's goals, policies, and vision for student achievement.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  • Master's Degree or higher
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate
  • Mid-Management or Principal Certificate
  • Special Knowledge and Skills:
  • Thorough knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to evaluate teacher effectiveness
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Strong organizational communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience:
  • Three years of successful teaching experience
  • Five years of successful principal experience at the Secondary Level

  • MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
    I. Instructional Management
  • Work cooperatively with others in developing the mission and articulating a vision for the district program.
  • Apply the findings of research and district studies to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching/learning process.
  • Utilize knowledge of curriculum content and the curriculum development process to facilitate teacher development of appropriate learning experiences of pupils.
  • Coordinate instructional programs among secondary schools and articulates curriculum among secondary grade levels and between elementary schools and secondary schools.
  • Direct and assist in the preparation of curriculum documents, instructional guides and materials based on systematic review and analysis.
  • Direct and assist in the support programs for at-risk and dropout recovery.
  • Direct and assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of the District's College Readiness program.
  • Encourage and supports the development and implementation of innovative instructional programs to achieve identified needs.
  • Assist the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the coordination of the administrator's appraisal process and evaluation of the campus principals.
  • Uses data analysis (including student achievement data) to examine curriculum and instructional program effectiveness.
  • Monitors and analyzes local, state, and federal assessment data to ensure student success, including planning with campus administration for early intervention to address and close learning gaps.
  • II. School/Organizational Climate
  • Demonstrate high expectations for campus level administrative staff(s) and students.
  • Foster collegiality and teambuilding among appropriate personnel, encouraging active involvement in decision-making.
  • Promote a positive school/organizational climate by planning improvement of school/district/community environment, reinforcing excellence, and promoting a positive caring climate of learning.
  • III. School/Organizational Improvement
  • Systematically monitor school improvement efforts and coordinate the monitoring system implemented district-wide.
  • Actively support the efforts of others to achieve district goals and objectives and the Campus Performance Objectives Federal and State Accountability, and Texas Academic Performance Reports.
  • Foster collaborative educational efforts among staff by supporting the district's philosophy and mission and its commitment to site-based shared decision-making.
  • IV. Personnel Management
  • Demonstrate skill in appropriate use of the Texas Principal Evaluation and Support System (T-PESS).
  • Demonstrate skill in "coaching" staff, provides technical assistance to principals, campus leadership team, teachers, and staff concerning the teaching/learning process, and encourages improved overall performance.
  • Secure consultants, specialists, and other resources for principals and instructional staff to assist in attaining objectives, and improve supervision skills.
  • Use the mission of the school district, program evaluation results, and input from teachers to provide effective inservice activities.
  • Coordinate and supervise the work of staff members in the Division of Curriculum and Instruction who provide services to all schools.
  • Supervises the District's Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP) and monitors student placements in collaboration with the Executive Director for Elementary Education.
  • V. Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
  • Offer constructive suggestions to ensure that policies and regulations support the teaching/learning process.
  • Define the program and fiscal needs in the development process, ensuring that fiscal resources address the mission of the school district.
  • Prepare or aid in the preparation of required plans and reports.
  • Keep the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction informed of all projects and directions undertaken, and of directives or requests received internally or externally.
  • Assist with the preparation of the budget for the Division of Curriculum and Instruction and monitor the expenditures of these funds.
  • VI. Student Management
  • Ensure that pupil personnel services are effective in supporting the teaching/learning process.
  • Support district and campus rules for student conduct.
  • Monitor the district's discipline policies and clearly communicate these to campus administrators, faculty, parents, and students.
  • VII. Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in professional development programs which lead to improved job performance.
  • Work with other Curriculum and Instruction administrators to plan and monitor the implementation of the district's staff development program.
  • Keep informed about current trends and practice in curriculum, instructional methods and technology, and disseminate professional information and materials to appropriate staff.
  • VIII. School/Community Relations
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission of the district as it is communicated to the public.
  • Communicate district curriculum, instructional practices, accomplishments, goals, and new directions to parents and the community; solicit their input on these instructional issues.
  • Demonstrate skill in conflict resolution with administrators, parents, teachers, staff, and community.
  • Monitor professional research and disseminate ideas and information to other professionals.
  • IX. Policy, Reports, and Law
  • Implement the policies established by federal and state law, Texas Education Agency, and local board policy in the area of curriculum and instruction.
  • Compile, maintain, and present all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • X. Others
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others.
  • Perform other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.

  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    All areas of education and evaluates the performance of assigned staff in the Division of Curriculum and Instruction. Secondary Coordinators for Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, and the Coordinator for Physical Education and Health.

    Frequent districtwide and occasional statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
