SUMMARY

The Cost Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing the organization's cost accounting processes, ensuring accurate and timely cost reporting, and supporting strategic decision-making by providing financial insights related to cost management. This role is a key contributor to the organization's financial health, focusing on operational efficiency and cost control without direct supervisory responsibilities.

Supervisory Responsibilities

While no supervisor responsibilities are assigned, leadership and the ability to handle escalated questions or issues from the financial team or other corporate staff are required.

Duties
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining cost accounting systems to track and report operational costs accurately. This includes preparing comprehensive cost analyses, variance reports, and product costing summaries to support strategic decision-making and identify opportunities for cost savings.
  • Ensures accurate valuation and reconciliation of inventory accounts, collaborates with operations teams on physical inventory counts, and maintains fixed asset records. The manager oversees adjustments to ensure compliance with financial standards and efficient tracking of assets.
  • Collaborates with various departments, the manager plays a critical role in preparing cost-related budgets and forecasts. By monitoring actual expenses against budgets, they identify variances and provide management with actionable insights for better financial control.
  • Identifies and implements process improvements within cost accounting practices to enhance accuracy and efficiency. They work closely with cross-functional teams to streamline cost control procedures and optimize financial reporting workflows.
  • Ensures adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies is a key function of this role. The manager supports internal and external audits by preparing accurate documentation and maintaining compliance with internal controls and industry standards.
  • Acting as a key resource, collaborates with operational leaders to provide guidance on cost-related matters. This includes offering insights into financial data to support decision-making and ensuring alignment between financial and operational objectives.
  • Oversees the accuracy and integrity of cost accounting data within ERP systems and other financial tools. They also support system upgrades or implementations, ensuring that cost accounting functions are effectively integrated and optimized for operational needs.

    General Qualifications

    Strong organizational and creative problem-solving skills are required. Must be able to manage multiple concurrent projects to deliver accurate and timely results. In depth knowledge of financial controls and accounting standards are required. Demonstrates capabilities in the use of sophisticated financial software is required as is the prior experience in analysis and reporting of detailed financial metrics.

    Education and/or Experience

    B.S./B.A. degree, 5 or more years of related experience is necessary.

    Language Skills

    The ability to communicate in English verbally and in writing is essential. Reports, email correspondence, schedules; are all typical requirements of this position and must be effectively and professionally communicated.

    Mathematical Skills

    Excellent analytical math skills required.

    Reasoning Ability

    Must be able to multitask and operate in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a disciplined approach to oversee employer and customers' needs. Works on assignments that are analytical by nature. Must be able to solve both practical and complex problems and deal with a variety of factors.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Valid driver's license is required.

    TOOLS AND/OR EQUIPMENT

    This position uses a computer extensively with demonstrated abilities in the use of Microsoft Office products as well as other common office type equipment. Familiarity with an ERP system is desired.

    This position may work in various environments including office, factory or home settings. Employees who are authorized to work from home are expected to comply with all company requirements for core work hours or in-person attendance at company meetings or events.
