Central Research Laboratories (CRL), the Remote Handling business within DESTACO is a key P&L serving the Life Sciences (pharmaceutical, radio-pharmaceutical and bio-containment) and Nuclear market segments. Our products are recognized in the marketplace under the CRL brand.
Position Summary:
The Materials Manger is responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans that meet or exceed organization goals for on-time delivery, inventory turns/reduction, materials conveyance, warehouse management, cost reduction initiatives, and efficient purchasing and planning processes. S/he will lead a culture of continuous improvement employing Lean Principle to identify and eliminate wastes for direct & indirect functions. S/he will implement purchasing and cost reduction initiatives, develop, and manage procurement and supply chain systems that ensure a supply base that meets delivery, quality and cost requirements. S/he will work within and communicate across various teams that enable the alignment with growth and profitability targets for DESTACO globally.
The Materials Manager reports to the Plant Manager, and is located in Red Wing, MN. This position requires minimal travel (less than 10%). The position requires the ability to work as business partners with the operations team to insure OTD targets are met, build, and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and both internal & external customers. S/he will work and communicate across the organization with manufacturing, finance, and product development, in global and virtual teams, and at various levels across the organization.

- Leads and fosters the continuous improvement roadmap for the supply chain team. Leverages continuous improvement tools to drive continued operational improvements and ensures engagement of the entire supply chain team through strong communication and clear direction.
- Ensures clear communication is maintained with stakeholders including suppliers, customers/customer service, operations, sourcing and Destaco leadership.
- Responsible for material conveyance and warehouse management within the shop including improvements.
- Coordinate quarterly cross functional PFEP reviews and ensures PFEP information is maintained in Oracle.
- Develops and executes cost reduction initiatives to maximize savings while reducing potential stock- out situations.
- Drives On Time Delivery by managing supplier lead times & commitments to provide right materials/right time to manufacturing team.
- Develop cycle count program to have more accurate real time inventory to minimize schedule disruptions and improve on time delivery
- Manage supplier quality requirements to ensure specifications/KPI's are met.
- Responsible for aligning forecast and scheduling future demand to ensure on-time delivery.
- Monitors supply base performance and communicates to suppliers per ISO procedures. Maintains open communication with suppliers to communicate changes in business processes and negotiates contracts for all direct, MRO, and services.
- Assists supply base in resolving any issued corrective actions and supports the development and implementation of process improvements identified by the supply base.
- Provides accurate cost information to establish correct cost standards.
- Creates procedures and reporting for effective inventory management. Ensures accuracy of data in the system including location, quantity on hand and value.
- Performs periodic analysis of demand to minimize inventory investment while supporting on-time delivery.
- Keeps up to date with the latest material trends and technology to eliminate waste in all processes and to improve delivery quality.
- Ensures all customer orders and/or outsourced manufacturing is appropriately packaged and shipped promptly, accurately and with all necessary documentation.
- Motivates and manages materials team to accomplish annual goals/objectives set at the individual and organizational levels.
- Manages MRO and Vendor managed inventory to support production and other business functions.

Job Requirements:
Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience in purchasing/sourcing and supply chain management.
- Experience in a high mix-low volume purchasing and material management environment.
- Working knowledge of Value Stream Mapping/Design, PFEP calculations, Just-In-Time practices (JIT), Kanban, and other inventory planning methods.
- Experience in material/production planning, warehouse management, material conveyance, and shipping/receiving
- Experience analyzing data and implementing plans to increase inventory turns.
- Extensive experience in collaborating with leaders and leading teams.
- Previous experience in working cross regionally or as part of a multi-national organization.
- Working knowledge of Oracle, Microsoft Excel
- Tooling, technical and/or automotive background preferred.
