Position Summary:

The Senior Director of Member Development will cast a transformative vision for care that enables Pioneers' field workers to thrive as they pursue the mission of reaching the unreached. This leader focuses on crafting a department recognized for its exceptional care, resilience-building, and development of missionaries serving in the most challenging environments. Guided by a vision to position Member Development as an industry thought leader, this role ensures missionaries are equipped, sustained, and empowered for long-term effectiveness in reaching the unreached. The Senior Director oversees a collaborative team, drives innovative systems, and establishes strategic partnerships - internally and externally - to enhance missionary mobilization, effectiveness and retention

Qualifications:
  • Committed to global missions and overall vision of Pioneers
  • Must practice and support the relevant elements of the US Mobilization Base Manual
  • Extensive understanding of the challenges associated with missionary care in cross-cultural contexts, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.
  • Proven leadership experience in a faith-based or missions-oriented organization, with a track record of fostering team growth and development.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to lead collaboratively, listen empathetically, and counsel with wisdom and grace.
  • At least 4 years of field experience or equivalent; theological training and mental health expertise are strong assets.
  • Visionary thinker capable of crafting strategies that balance innovation with organizational priorities.
  • Leadership and management skills, able to foster teamwork as well as shape a culture of personal growth, relational health, and spiritual vitality.

Responsibilities:

Develop & maintain financial support base.

Strategic Vision & Leadership:
  • Establish a unified team vision and mission statement, fostering clarity, direction, and team alignment to the larger Oteam.
  • Develop and implement a roadmap for positioning the Member Development team as a trusted and respected leader in missionary care.
  • Advocate for missionary well-being and resilience as core priorities, leveraging cutting-edge resources and industry insights.
  • Envision and implement innovative care models tailored to the needs of missionaries in cross-cultural settings.
  • Advocate for the holistic well-being of missionaries at all organizational levels, ensuring alignment with Pioneers' core values and strategic priorities.
  • Foster a culture of personal growth, relational health, and spiritual vitality across all US field members.

Team Leadership:
  • Lead, equip, and inspire a team of consultants to deliver high-impact care and development opportunities for missionaries and their families.
  • Support team members in goal-setting, skill development, and fostering a collaborative, grace-filled working environment rooted in trust.
  • Cultivate a team ethos that values mutual care, diverse perspectives, and strengths-based collaboration inside and outside of the Member Development team.

Systems Innovation:
  • Reimagine existing care systems to address evolving challenges and opportunities in member development.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify and implement best practices in missionary care.
  • Leverage data and feedback to refine care strategies and ensure responsiveness to field realities.

Collaboration and Networking:
  • Partner with other organizational leaders to integrate care initiatives into broader organizational goals.
  • Represent Member Development on Pioneers' Operational Leadership Team, ensuring Member Development perspectives shape key decisions.
  • Build connections with external organizations to share insights and adopt leading practices in missionary care.

Operational Excellence:
  • Oversee the development and management of the Member Development budget in alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Establish clear objectives and benchmarks for team performance, ensuring alignment with Pioneers' vision - maintaining accountability of all team members.
  • Champion a continuous improvement mindset, regularly assessing team impact and identifying areas for growth.


Physical Demands:
  • Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment with extensive public contact and frequent interruptions.
  • Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
  • Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
  • Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.


Additional Notes:

Initially, this role will require the development of a new structure for the team. Presently, everyone on the team reports to this role. This will need to be addressed immediately upon appointment in order to protect longevity and health of the leader. The expectation is that upon development of the teams' new vision, the structure will be developed to achieve that end.
