SUMMARY:

  • Karman Space & Defense, South El Monte is currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer, Spin Forming. This is an onsite based position with some occasional travel within California.
    This position is responsible for effective leadership, development, and execution of the strategic initiatives of the South El Monte team. Your primary role will be to lead the manufacturing process definition and technical execution on spin forming related projects. Typically, the manufacturing process includes metal forming, machining, assembly and other related analytical testing. You will oversee the overall manufacture process from definition through execution. The engineer in this position will help define what production equipment, tools, systems, and materials will be required in order to create an efficient, organized, and lean manufacturing process. After production operations begin, the engineer will work on process improvement and production optimization using lean processes and tools.


RESPONSIBILITY & AUTHORITY:
  • Provide Technical Ownership and serve as Project Lead for Design and Development of Tooling and Process Implementation of metal spin forming, tooling mandrels, and other fabrication processes driven by thermal analysis.
  • Manage projects and conduct project reviews as needed to ensure successful and timely completion, within budget. Communicates changes and progress status.
  • Develop organizational capability/capacity and engineering/technical skills among team and division sites to support division strategies and initiatives. Maintain appropriate training programs to assure continuous learning.
  • Develop capability for improved engineering techniques and BASELINES that add value to our products. Develop practices for documented technical standards around best practices and using lessons learned.
  • Develop and implement standard processes and tools for engineering tasks consistent with industry best practices. Monitor to assure adherence to defined processes.
  • Lead continuous improvement processes for productivity, and first-pass yield. Use of tools including Design for Six Sigma to achieve that end. Identify key engineering metrics, monitor performance and implement improvements accordingly.
  • Utilize tools to successfully develop, introduce and transfer product to site. Act as manufacturing liaison for products from inception through shipment to customer. Interact with Design Engineering, Operations and Supply Chain teams to ensure design for manufacturability of new and legacy products.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication presentation skills and the ability to work well with customers and development team members.
    • Strong project management and analytical skills.
    • Stay abreast of industry technology trends and act as the organizational liaison to universities and industry organizations accordingly.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline from an accredited institution.


  • Minimum of five (5) years engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience supporting product development and/or sustainment programs.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship, now or in the future.
  • Must be proficient in Blueprint reading and GD&T.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in Tubing and Sheet Metal Process including Metal Spin Forming, Drawing, and Progressive Manufacturing Processes to support Tool & Die Design.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated experience with lean manufacturing techniques and six sigma training/mentoring.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience supporting manufacturing in the Aerospace industry.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in thermal analysis/management.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
